Turn any IDE or SATA drive into a convenient external drive!

Simply connect one IDE/ATAPI or SATA-based mass storage device through a USB port to easily transfer files from a computer or laptop, backup files or store large file archives on an external hard drive.

The USB 2.0 interface enables easy installation with its plug-and-play design.

The adapter supports all existing IDE/ATAPI devices such as Iomega Zip, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and IDE hard drives.

Compatible with current drive sizes on the market such as 1 and 2 TB SATA and 750 GB IDE drives.

Because this adapter can handle all sizes and types of mass storage drives, it's a great solution for recovering personal files from IDE or SATA drives from computers that have had motherboard failures.

Includes an integrated USB transceiver; supports USB Suspend/Resume and Remote Wakeup; and a 5 Volt (1 Ampere) power supply that supports both SATA power and standard 4-pin Molex (LP4) power connectors.

The on/off switch on the power supply lets you shut off an attached drive without having to disconnect when not in use.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks for IDE, SATA 2 -- but limited drive size

Pros: Easy to use, supports several drive types with a minimum of cables. The power switch is a nice touch.

Cons: Either the adapter does not handle SATA 3 drives correctly, or the 500 GB limit is a little fuzzy -- when I attach a known-good 500 GB SATA 3 drive my computer sees garbled information about the drive, different each time.

I spent a good long while trying to use this adapter with a 3 TB SATA 3 drive before I discovered this limitation.

5 out of 5 eggsVersitile, easy to use, well made!

Pros: Everything you need is included, power adapters, USB connector, and drive connectors for 2.5" laptop and 5" Desktop drives..
Didn't need to install any software drivers at all; the controlling computer's USB sees the adapter as an ATA/ATAPI Bridge.
The separate power supply has a green continuity (plugged in indicator) LED then on the output side there is a small inline switch in the cord which then passes power to the drive.
That switch also has a small green LED to indicate power is being sent to the drive.
Finally there is a blue activity light inside the drive connector, so all functions are well documented as you use the device.
All the cables seem to be heavy duty and substantial, as is the power supply. The power supply is situated several feet from the 110v. plug so you're not stuck with another wall wart taking up more space on a power strip or outlet.

This really seems to be a well made, thoughtfully designed setup. Really is just plug and play, no problems encountered when used with Windows XP, Win 7 Pro and Win 8.1.

Cons: Not really a "con", the whole assemblage of power supply, adapters and drive sockets is a bit bulky, but certainly nothing a typical briefcase couldn't handle easily.

Other Thoughts: Just the thing for rescuing data off of non-functioning laptop computers or those old ATA drives from the pre-SATA days.
The "recycled" drives can provide you with some removable backup space and securely stored in your fire safe or other remote secure location. Well worth the low price- I wish I'd gotten one of these sooner.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works!!

Pros: Simple, easy to use, and it worked great to get data off of an old HD. I had previously bought a hard drive enclosure to try to retrieve this data but I could not get it to work. Wrong OS, wrong jumper settings, or something, tried it on two computers. So I had worries that perhaps this drive was shot and my data was lost. Happily, this worked. It has a light that comes on for power and a light that comes on that shows drive connectivity to the USB port. The cables fit in a small box, easy to keep in a drawer for future use.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: It works and does what it should. Easy to use.

Cons: It would be nice if it were USB 3.0, but the product still functions just fine as a 2.0

4 out of 5 eggsSuper Handy

Pros: This little adapter is very useful when you are rebuilding a computer or changing operating systems. In the past we would open the cases and temporarily install an extra hard drive to backup data. Often the extra was hanging from a cable or wedged between components. This adapter is very handy.

Cons: The only down side is the short SATA cable that comes with the adapter. After several connects the cable has become lose. That is a non-problem problem, it's not like we don't have 10 other SATA cables laying around.

Other Thoughts: This adapter is inexpensive, and so far extremely reliable. USB is fast enough for all our purposes. We recommend this product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked like a product should.

Pros: Simple to use. Worked perfectly.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I've only needed to use this a couple times, but it was so much easier than setting up and old box and installing a drive.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB Adapter

Pros: *Handy
*Easy to setup
*Works on new and older drives

I bought this when I bought a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and read that I would need a USB adapter to use the clone software that comes with the Samsung SSD's.

After using it to clone the original HDD to the SSD (which went flawlessly), I've used this little adapter many times over now. Checking old drives that have been in boxes to see what I had on them, transferring files from my main to an external SSD which I keep simply for backups of files that I use often.

I must say, when I use it on the external SSD, it's like having a 240GB USB Flash Drive, just a little bigger :)
The transfer rates are great, not USB 3.0 great, but it is a USB 2.0 so fast enough for me for transfers.

Cons: Absolutely none, glad I bought one.

Other Thoughts: If you have any older drives sitting around and don't want to go through the hassle of hooking them up directly to the Motherboard Ports to check data on them, this adapter is perfect for the job.

If you have an SSD that got put to the side because you upgraded to a larger capacity SSD and now the lower capacity SSD is just sitting there, this adapter makes that SSD once again very useful by turning it into a larger version of a USB Flash Drive.

Excellent Product, Highly Recommended

Pros: Successfully used in transferring my files from an old HDD to my new laptop HDD. Quick hook up, portable, connecting IDE & SATA drives via USB. Sweet victory!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Decent price for such a vital tool when working on PC's in regards to file transfers. A must have for any tech IMO.
