5 out of 5 eggsAthena Power adapter cable

Pros: This is amazing! It does what it's intended to do. Decent length of cable as well for management.

Cons: The only con is the non covered cables, would of liked to see them covered in black but that is about it!

3 out of 5 eggs20AWG

Pros: Affordable, honest markings.

Cons: Small wire gauge.

Other Thoughts: Acquired from another vendor. Workmanship seems acceptable/as expected; probably the crimped connectors are the weakest points in all of these given pictures from people who have burnt out various PCI-E power splitters.

The wire gauge is 20AWG. Under ideal circumstances that means the individual wires should become a filament (AKA guaranteed smoke) around 10A, or 120W@12V. You probably want to stay well, _well_ under that limit. In theory the load should be spread across 3 conductors [or 6 conductors for the pair] so take your card's draw and divide it by 3 or 6 to guess how close you are to the smoke point, or whatever is the 'waste a bunch of electricity and melt all the insulation off before that' point.

Now assume something happens at one of the crimps. Now instead of that safety factor of /3, you're down to /2 on that connector. But if your card needs that much power you maybe should not be trying to squeak by with a splitter in the first place.

I'm hoping this works adequately with a Radeon 7870 on a PSU with decent wire gauges and a single adequate 12V rail. If you have a more ridiculously power-hungry card, please realize that this is only doubling your connectors, not so much the power you can push through the wires safely.

People have discovered no-name? splitters that are actually using thick "counterfeit" wire jackets labeled 18AWG but concealing the minimal amount of copper they can get away with, so at least with this model you probably got what you paid for and know its actual limits.

2 out of 5 eggsAre you kidding me?

Pros: price.

Cons: Are you kidding me?
This wire's gauge is so thin that I doubt it can carry the power supply's amp from a rail. Never mind dual connect, 280 watts? No way !
This was not made for a high end card.
Wish they would list the gauge of the wire you are getting stuck with.

Other Thoughts: Live and learn.
