5 out of 5 eggsSuperb cable

Pros: StarTech makes a high quality cable. The connectors are solid, holding well even when inadvertently jarred. Unlike another brand's cable we have used, the connectors are not impossible to remove.

The cables are also flexible. No problems routing through and between equipment. The outer sheath is sturdy, and shown no signs of nicks or cuts after over three years service in a lab environment.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You definitely get what you pay for with these cables.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, tight connector fit

Pros: I especially appreciate the tight connectors - my previous connectors quickly loosened on both the hard drive and the PC. The connector tightness is just right - not so tight that they are hard to disconnect but not so loose that they disconnect or pull out too easily.

I would definitely buy more cables of this brand and type.

These cables aren't too hard to route as the excess cable length easily folds into a reasonably small pile of loops. They bend easily in one direction, which is convenient for routing and folding.

Speed with 6Gbps eSATA port improved substantially vs older, cheaper cables. Stability of the drive mount after turning the drives on is *much* better, and I have not had a drive start failure with the new cables.

Cons: None that I can think of.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Unknown - see below.

Cons: Unknown - see below.

Other Thoughts: After trying to get this to work with an external hard drive I found information that the drive only supported 3 ft eSATA cables. Before you get a 6 ft cable make sure it is supported by your drive.

I was trying to connect a two year old external drive to a new computer that supported eSATA. The drive supports USB2, firewire, and eSATA cables. I knocked the drive over 2 or 3 times while setting up the new computer, but it still worked. Unfortunately the drive dropped its connection to the new computer after a few hours. It did this with all types of cables but seemed to work best with a firewire cable. Since this disk is used as a backup drive, I replaced it with a new external drive. The new drive only uses a USB3 or USB2 cable. Therefore I can not tell you how good or how bad this eSATA cable is. I will save the cable in case I need it in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsA long and useful eSata cable

Pros: Connectors are solid!
Long enough for most desktop and portable uses!
Cable in flexible (not rigidly unyielding like so many)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would've bought the 3ft vesrion except it cost $.30 more than the 6ft variety! I only need it on a workbench docking station)

But . . . . HAPPY nonetheless!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This cable was an absolute must and I will probably buy a few more of them. Can't speak to any performance improvements (bought it at the same time as my new HD cradle and never tested them separate) but I can say I haven't noticed any performance degradation as a result of it being longer or even being external.

Cons: That it wasn't included with the HD cradle I bought it for. Hardly StarTech's fault.

Other Thoughts: What are the people at these companies thinking? 3ft long cables? Why? To shave 10 bucks off the cost of the unit instead of including shielded cables?

I can't fathom what has gotten into the various industry heads out there for them to decide, after decades of people claiming 6ft cables aren't long enough, that 3ft cables would be.

5 out of 5 eggsFaster Than Average

Pros: I've been using this cable nearly 24/7 on drive that stores hundreds of seeded torrents for over a year.

It's thicker than the cable that came with my Fantom external drive. I needed the length, but I was worried about attenuation causing slower transfer speeds.

The shielding really works. My external drive actually transfers data 20-30% faster than it did with the shorter stock cable.

Cons: Price? Nah, you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Shielded Cable

Pros: Long cable. Shielded.

Cons: Not SATA 3 spec.

Other Thoughts: I cannot knock any eggs off as SATA 3 spec wasn't even around when I purchased this cable. I will just have to replace it with a new SATA 3 version however.
