StarTech.com's eSATA SATA adapter plate adds external data support to any existing Serial ATA controller.


The adapter plate can be mounted to the rear panel of the computer case. It provides straightforward eSATA-to-SATA connections, and allows users to connect their eSATA device (hard drive enclosure, etc.) to the provided eSATA port, which is an extension of the motherboard SATA data connector.

Pros: It works exactly as it should. It is an inexpensive solution.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My old motherboard had an on board ESATA connector. Very few newer motherboards have one. This fit my ASUS H97M-E micro ATX board and Rosewill Line M case with room to spare.

Pros: -Works as advertized
-Very Cheap
-Sturdy
-Good alternative to an eSATA card
-The bracket was very sturdy

Other Thoughts: Honestly I read in other reviews how others found this cable fairly short, but it's even shorter than I expected. I knocked two stars down for this, since it's a giant inconvenience that the cable is as short as it is, and two, considering how cheap sata cables have gotten you would figure that they could of made this one or two inches longer that what it is right now.
Which upon discovery of the cable being too short I decided to measure how long it was, this led me to discover that this cable wasn't the advertized 1ft(12in) it was barely 11in. So again, I don't understand why the company would do this, specially with how cheap SATA cables are.

Cons: Cable was too short by about an inch to stretch across and plug into my ATX mobo SATA ports. If you have a large motherboard, you might want to buy an eSATA adapter with a longer cable.

Pros: Cheaper than an eSATA card.

Cons: Attached cable, not changeable is pretty short. It BARELY reached to my nearest SATA. Otherwise fine...

Pros: Plugs into the motherboard's SATA port via latching plug without any problem.

Cons: Low profile metal strip where the eSATA port is fixed to doesn't fit perfectly with Dell's frame. I had to use a Dremel tool to open up the opening for it to sit snugly in the frame.

Pros: Converted internal SATA port to eSATA, Quick and painless

Cons: It didn't come free with my motherboard... :)

Other Thoughts: Once you go eSATA you wont want USB 2.0 any more
