5 out of 5 eggsDoes exactly what it promises

Pros: Does what it promises: I popped this into a Sun Blade 100 and a Transcend 8G Cf card (N82E16820208340) into it as / and instantly was down to one HDA. I cut down on noise a *LOT*.

See, the Sun suffers from the 128G limit, but once booted can see the 1.0T SATA drive. This combo worked for me. Using OBP 4.x, OpenBSD 4.8, and I forget which SATA card.

Cons: None, yet.

Other Thoughts: Unknown how well it will perform over time. I did place it in the lower IDE slot so as to maximise airflow, just in case. This box has been happy for a week, I'll change the other box to use this in a month or so.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth .20 much less 20.00

Pros: Looks like the picture. Doesn't require a ribbon cable.

Cons: This worked fine to boot a CF card as long as the card was formatted fat32. Formatted the Card ext4 & then the card wasn't recognized correctly by the bios or OS. Tested the card in a usb card reader in another machine & it showed fine. Tested a brand new card of another name brand & the card wasn't recognized correctly by the bios. Moral of the story, Dont format a card to ext4 in this or the reader is shot.

1 out of 5 eggsLong way to go...

Pros: N/A - see Cons

Cons: 1. The IDE and "Flash" connectors on the motherboards intended to use with this Flash-to-IDE adapter sit directly under the Motherboard air shroud's plastic wall. There is no way to plug the adapter in and put the shroud back on short of cutting a slot in the shroud!?!. Since those are server systems with passive CPU heatsinks, I need the shroud on. I have very few reasons why you would use this adapter in a desktop computer anyway. Although this is not entirely the adapter manufacturer's fault, but motherboard and case designer's, it should have been taken into consideration when developing the product.
2. Even if you manage to put the adapter in place, in my case, the adapter and the flash card itself sit in the center of one of the case fans, blowing air towards the Video card and the rest of the system cocomponets and the face of the adapter and flash card ARE PERPENDICULAR to the air flow. Meaning - your flash card will catch a cold, while the rest of the case will get sun-burned

Other Thoughts: Between the two flash cards and the adapter I paid about $60, and I can't use neither right now, till I find a way to plug a flat cable under the tight space between the IDE/Flash connector on the motherboard and the shroud and route it to the side of the server's case, where I need to figure out a way to securely mount the adapter hardware. Overall - a big disappontment from this product.
Check your's system's internal layout for air and/or mechanical obstacles in the way of plugging in this adapter on the motherboard. It sits about 3 inches high with the CF card inserted. It is not possible to use it in a 1U system and 2U will be a hit-or-miss, depending on the case manufacturer. 3U and above are the only safe options here. I have not been able to test the adapter whether it is even working yet, but plan on doing it shortly.
I bought the adapter as a StarTech brand for $20, but Newegg is selling the same adapter under the SYBA brand for $7...

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Computer BIOS sees CF card as a normal harddrive. No special drivers required. All high speed connectivity is handled by the CF card, not this device. All this is here for is to connect pins and supply power.

Cons: If the CF card does not support at least UDMA-2, the drive will be slow. CF manufacturers do not always publish what their cards support.

Other Thoughts: Currently using a Transcend 8GB card as the boot drive for a media center PC running WinXP. Removing the standard HD cut the system's noise in half. Remember to disable the swapfile, system restore, and minimize windows updates. If you don't your CF card will meet a quick end.
