This review is from: StarTech 1 Port RS-232/422/485 Serial over IP Ethernet Device Server Pros: None Cons: Even though Startech's web site for this product says that it is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Vista, it is not. The Virtual Com Port that is used to make this device appear as a serial port on a networked computer is only compatible with Windows XP and Windows 2000. It is NOT compatible with Windows 7, Vista, 2008, 2008 R2, or Windows 2003. The only functionality this device offers on these other OSs is telnet. It's totally useless for 95% of the applications out there unless you have one of the exactly two (both obsolete) operating systems that this supports. The latest drivers are dated 2005, and Startech tech support basically said "yeah, we say it's compatible on our site, but it's actually not, sorry." They said they have no plans to ever release updated drivers. I guess I have to fork over the money for shipping to get newegg to take back this obsolete and basically unsupported item! Need to have good working technical knowledge to properly hook this up .... not plug and play. Out of the box the device comes with a default IP address vs DHCP enabled, so you will need to configure you computer to its static IP address range just to browse into its setup page to get it to setup in your network.
