5 out of 5 eggsReplacement for Aten KVM

Pros: After some recent power problems where my utility allowed the voltage in my neighborhood to exceed 130VAC. One of the casualties was the power adapter for my five year old Aten 4-way KVM switch that is similar to the CS-1764A.

The symptoms were some nasty video artifacts on my 24" monitor in the form of colorful jagged lightening forks. Soon the headlight on my wheel mouse started flickering, then the mouse died altogether. Connecting the peripherals directly to my desktop PC and eliminating the Aten switch from the signal path solved the problems.

While browsing NewEgg for a new KVM switch I came across this StarTech Spare 5 VDC Power Adapter. It had voltage and amperage specs inline with the Aten power adapter. The power plug also looked promising in the pictures. So I figured why not gamble $15.00 with shipping for a new power adapter and see if it works. To my pleasant surprise it works perfectly. The video artifacts are all gone, my mouse and keyboard work perfectly now. I figured I just saved close to $200 over having to buy a new 4-way KVM switch.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I also own another 2-way Aten KVM switch, but its missing its power adapter, so I just ordered two more of these StarTech adapters. One to fix the 2-way KVM and one for a spare. I own other StarTech products and they have always been good quality products.
