The ICUSB2321F 1-Port USB to Serial RS232 Adapter Cable with FTDI chipset and COM Retention converts an available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port into an RS232 serial DB9 port to connect, monitor and control your serial devices.

This compact adapter features COM retention, allowing the same COM port value to automatically be re-assigned to the port if the cable is disconnected and re-connected to the host computer, or if the system is rebooted. The ICUSB2321F uses the FTDI chipset which supports additional customization, advanced features, and compatibility not necessarily offered by other solutions.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Retains Com Settings
Compatible with every device I have connected to

Cons: A little bulky to haul around. Would love one with a shorter cord.

Other Thoughts: I have bought at least half a dozen of these and I will keep on buying them. I use them to connect to modems, security/access/fire panels, phone systems, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Like a Charm

Pros: This adapter was immediately recognized and installed by my Win7 x64 system, and I was able to communicate through the COM port successfully.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: An installation CD was included, but I didn't need it.

I was successfully able to make my new Win7 x64 system output to a 25+ year-old HP 7475A pen plotter!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product!

Pros: Fast, does not interfere with software, saves port assignments

Cons: Little larger than it needs to be. Purely cosmetic complaint, we really don't care.

Other Thoughts: We run a small business that must have serial port printers. We had been using a Belkin cable, which we didn't even know was interfering with our point of sale system (we blamed our new HP computers). When one finally died, we ordered this cable - and are thrilled. It solved compatibility issues that we didn't even know came from the cable, and now our system runs faster and more reliably. Great buy! Yes, the housing is a little larger than it needs to be - but we could care less. We were so pleased with the first that we ordered another, and are now ordering one more so all our computers will use this cable. Would definitely recommend.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in win7

Pros: Painless to install since you do not need to crack open the machine, connects to USB port. Software installed without any problems.

Cons: Don't waste your time on cheaper devices, buy only ones confirmed to work with your operating system.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks where others would not

Pros: It works! Easy to install and I was able to communicate with RS232 device first time. Much more reliable than the prolific chip set, which was extremely unstable.

This is the third or 4th USB to RS232C adapter and the first that works for all my devices with out a driver reload.

Cons: A TX/RX LED would be nice

5 out of 5 eggsBest USB-Serial

Pros: Has not failed me yet. Have given out several to techs and customers for alarm programming and various serial devices.

Cons: Don't really need a 6ft cable most of the time, but none otherwise.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, compatible, works perfectly

Pros: Unlike other brands of USB to Serial converters we have used, the Startech model performs without a hitch. Other converters tend to drop communications or hang momentarily when the connected device sends a large streams of data. Not the Startech. It handled everything thrown its way.

Cons: As Baud notes below, the adapter size is on the large size and there are no TX/RX indicator LEDs. All things considered, I'll trade the size and lack of lights for having the thing just plain work.

Other Thoughts: We ended up purchasing a bunch of these adapters after finding them to work on a range of Windows systems: Win 7 x64, Win 8 x64, and Server 2008 R2 x64.

Startech claims that the ICUSB2321F supports Linux, but there is no Linux download available.

4 out of 5 eggsUSB to 232 to USB

Pros: Works with WIN8 Pro 64 both the first release, and 8.1. I have also tried them with XP32 and WIN7 32 and they work fine. Using them for lab work and they just keep on plugging along 24/7.

Cons: Converter enclosure could be a bit smaller, it is approx 1.5”x 1.5” x 3/4”.

Other Thoughts: Could use TX RX indicator.
