5 out of 5 eggsNice solution

Pros: Works just fine, using it on Win7 Ultimate/64, desktop and laptop, using included mini disk. Got it up and running in a jiffy, about a minute actually. Just for fun I threw it on a machine running XP SP3 and the results were exactly the same.

Cons: I sure can't think of one. I needed to adapt a data logger electronic device (what idiot designs RS232 connections on new equipment anyway)? Sabrent did their job perfectly on this item as all of the functions transmitted through the converter are absolutely perfect.

Other Thoughts: What more could one ask for? Fair price, super easy install, perfect functionality and the construction appears just fine.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away if you're running Windows 7 64 bit

Pros: Works great if you're not running Windows 7.

Cons: Random BSODs when running Windows 7 64 bit.

Other Thoughts: It's a good adapter, but unusable on any of the newer machines I use. I was initially very impressed w/ the price/performance when they were attached to XP machines. Not worth it if you're running Windows 7 64 bit. Buy something else.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Does the job. Sturdy construction. Also, bought it 3-4 years ago and manufacturer still supports it for when I upgraded from XP to Windows7. Hurrah!

Cons: Under XP, required a driver install each time I plugged it into a different USB port on the same computer. This was a real hassle because it was plugged into a hub at the end of a long active extender cable. Needed to make sure it was plugged in to the same computer port and far-end hub port every time I used it. Fortunately, this seems to be fixed in Windows7.

Other Thoughts: Get familiar with the XP/Windows7 device manager, you will need to fiddle with the device if you want a specific serial rate, or COM port number. Under Windows7 it doesn't care which USB port it's plugged into, it just works. However, the COM port number changes each time.
