4 out of 5 eggsscotch tape for loose buttons

Pros: We had a server that would hang on occasion, and the only way to bring it back was by killing the power. Enter this unit, which did the trick perfectly for several years and was only taken out of service when we finally retired that server. Sure was nice to be able to do that remotely, especially when it was needed early a.m.!

Cons: The buttons on our unit were loose and prone to falling out, like those of another reviewer. My solution was a strip of Scotch Magic tape the full length of the buttons. It adheres to the buttons and the faceplate, and holds them in perfectly, while still permitting manual control. Problem solved. Now, you'd think on a $380 (MSRP) unit they could figure out how to properly affix the buttons...

4 out of 5 eggsWhite buttons

Pros: These units have worked quite well and have not had any issues with the functionality.

Cons: We ordered two of these units and when we got them the same two buttons were laying at the bottom of the box. I called newegg and they were able to RMA the two units and blamed UPS for the damage. When I recieved the two new units the same two buttons were laying on the bottom of the box. I didn't have time to do another RMA so we just used the units as they were.

5 out of 5 eggsThey work, quite well.

Pros: Works great, does what it’s suppose to. Pretty happy that it has environmental monitoring. Web interface is simple and easy to use/setup uptime for over a year no crashes or odd behavior.

Cons: A few of the white buttons where laying lose in the box and when I tried to put them back on they just fell right back off. Didn't have time to RMA it needed to put it into service so just a drop of superglue gel on each of the buttons and works fine. So some QC issues they could look at.

Other Thoughts: Given the price it does pretty well. Some nice extra features I didn't expect to see.

1 out of 5 eggsStill Terrible!

Pros: Can be configured to auto-shutdown ports based on humidity and temperature.

Cons: Auto-restart state is still not configurable! The manufacturer's response is unclear. There is now no way to enable the previous functionality of having computers that were running stay off after a power failure. I bought this WANTING the feature the other commenter complained about, thinking that by fixed, it was now configurable. No "fixed" means that they just switched the logic.

Manufacturer Response:

Thanks for your feedback and additional comments on the CSW8RU. You are correct that the firmware has now been updated to automatically restart the ports, without user configuration. While this update has corrected the issue for the majority of our users, we are now aware that consumers would like to have the flexibility of configuring this option via software interface. I apologize for the misunderstanding, and if the product doesn’t fully meet your expectations, feel free to return the product to us for a full refund. Thanks, CyberPower Systems. 1-877-297-6937.

1 out of 5 eggsThese things are TERRIBLE.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive.

Cons: The power takeoffs provided in back are OFF BY DEFAULT. When this unit loses power, you must remote into it to turn whatever is plugged into it back on, or stand in front of it and hit the buttons. I called tech support to see if there was any way to get those ports ON by default, and there is none. I bought four of these, and have to send them back.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your feedback and comments on the CSW8RU. On behalf of CyberPower, I’d first like to apologize for the issues that you’ve had with the unit. New firmware updates to the CSW8RU have now corrected the issue of “Auto-restart” and “last outlet state restore.” Both of these concerns did exist on units that were shipped prior to June '07. Please feel free to contact us and we’ll update your unit free of charge. Thank you – Philip Westover, Marketing Manager – CyberPower Systems.
