5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Worked great on an old hard drive from the early 2000's and a hard drive out of an old Mac book G4. Extremely easy to use and glad I bought it.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsSeems like a good product

Pros: I bought this to get a bunch of stuff off of an old IDE drive from my last build that was laying around. The setup is straight forward and simple enough; if you're familiar with drives than you'll understand the plug, if not than you probably shouldn't be using this anyway. Check your jumper.

Cons: I had to copy about 200GB of data. It was going smoothly until it hit 20% when I heard the drive die. I don't know how to type the sound, but you'll know it if you hear it. I could also start to smell it - it obviously locked up. I don't want to blame to adapter, maybe the power supply though. But even that is speculation as my drive was pretty old and the things just die sometimes.

My point is this - don't copy large amounts all at once. Copy in small batches. The drive may have just been working too hard, so I should have have copied some, let it cool down, and copied some more.

Good luck!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does what it says on the tin, requires no drivers with any computer I have used, the power supply that comes with it is sufficient.

Cons: This thing is slow. I would expect, being a USB 2 device, that throughput would be in the neighborhood of 25-30MB/s. This is not the case. I have only seen a maximum 10-15MB/s. The drives, when connected directly to the motherboard, operate at 40-45MB/s. This device does not saturate either the USB or hard drive bus sides. This complaint is only costing the thing one egg. It's not THAT bad, but disappointing.

4 out of 5 eggsReliable tool for the job

Pros: Very simple and easy to use, but you will have to have some basic knowledge of how to transfer files over from the hard-rive and be able to identify corrupt files.

Cons: The wiring could have been inproved and could see that improper storing of the item could cause frying of the connections. Suggestion is to store in a flat box when not in use and not in the back of your drawer.

1 out of 5 eggsNot a Good Product

Pros: Connectors mated with various hard drives.

Cons: I tried this device with 7 different hard drives (2 are IDE and 5 are SATA) and it does not work whatsoever. I tried using it in both Linux Fedora Core and Windows 7 and none of the hard drives were recognized. The hard drives ranged in capacity of 320 GB to 2TB. I would not recommend and avoid buying.

5 out of 5 eggsA life saver, works great

Pros: I've been able to diagnose and recover data from all types of drives with this device. I've used it on W7 and OSX hosts with no issues. Comes with all the adapters you need.

Cons: The power cord sometimes doesn't make good contact.

Other Thoughts: Worth every cent.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: none

Cons: DOA. Bought in 2012, but didn't need until recently when I needed to access data on some old hard drives I kept from an old computer. It never worked and I didn't have time to troubleshoot it further.

Other Thoughts: I'll try a using a different power source when I have time.

5 out of 5 eggsData Back Up tool kit

Pros: Use this to recovery documents and files for customers for computer that we reformat. The man key to recover data don't use windows to back up from windows. We use linux and just plug in, copy and past home folder and done.

Cons: The IDE connectors are slim line, meaning that the edges of the connector are not thick enough to line up with pins. So if you use IDE drives you need to line up pins, don't just plug it in. I took this for granted the first time and bent some pins. The good part I have the tools to fix the pins.

5 out of 5 eggspower adapter DOA

Pros: Super easy to setup and use and its works well with IDE and SATA, The reader is very small but the power adaptor is not.

Cons: My power adaptor was DOA, I used another one to test the reader.

Other Thoughts: No reason to ding a good reader because it was shipped with a bad power supply.
