4 out of 5 eggsJust what I wanted

Pros: I wanted to use some of my old IDE drives that I was currently using externally in my computer where I have fans and can keep them cool. I bought 4 of these converters and all of them work just fine now. It came with power cords and sata cord.

Cons: At first the converter didn't work I had them hooked up to a pcie card and my computer would not post. So I then hooked them up straight to the motherboard and my hard drives worked just fine. I then hooked them back up to the pcie card and they work just fine now. The only thing there is a slight pause in accessing my hard drives almost as thought it is taking a while for the operating system to see them. I am running 2 computers with these converters one with windows 7 and one with windows 8 and they both do the same thing so you have to be patient and let windows see the hard drives

Other Thoughts: Not happy with the way my shipment arrived. Who ever the carrier was decided not to knock on my door or ring the bell they just went straight to the office of my building and left it there. No notes nothing I was lucky to have known it was here by checking online anyone could have kept my shipment

1 out of 5 eggsPointless

Pros: It arrived in a reasonable amount of time.

Cons: It does nothing except occupy space. My newly built, Win7 Enterprise N, 16gbRAM, i7Intel processor system sees nothing where this unit is connected.

Other Thoughts: I didn't lose much, as it was cheap. I won't lose anymore because I am finished with this source of useless plastic bits. It was a thought to install a drive from another computer into the new one rather than swap data from time to time. This item does nothing to help that along.
But every education has a price. Fortunately, it wasn't too high.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality Product

Pros: Received promptly and installed same. Product took a couple of minutes to install and reboot. Does exactly what it is supposed to and does it well.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Running Windows 7 X64. Had to change Sata setting from AHCI to IDE and runs perfectly. Remember to ensure that power lead goes to adaptor AND to the drive itself.

1 out of 5 eggsuseless

Pros: It's... small?

Cons: Did not work at all
Completely useless

Other Thoughts: I ordered this thing so I could connect my old DVD drive to my new-ish motherboard. The shipping took a week because my package went off course and was misdelivered. When I finally got it and attempted to install it, Windows would not recognize the disc drive. So I went into the BIOS, and it didn't see it either. I checked that everything was plugged in correctly and tried switching the drive between master and slave modes, but to no avail. It also wouldn't matter if I used the included power cable, or the 4-pin connector from my power supply; Neither worked. The unit also didn't work when I tested it on an old hard drive. I will be requesting a refund, and will never buy from Vantec again.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I had installed the converter on a HD and it worked perfectly. I installed it on an optical device and it didn't work at all. I contacted Vantec support and they made a few suggestions and the problem went away. Turns out it was a faulty cabel.

Cons: The cable that came with the converter only worked for a short time.

Other Thoughts: Works well enough that I plan on buying at least one more converter to use with a third HD.

PLEASE disregard the review I wrote on 3/12/2013.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

Pros: None

Cons: Didn't work on either my IDE DVD drive or IDE HDD. It powered the drive up but it wasn't recognized by my motherboard or Windows.

Other Thoughts: Would be great if this worked. I have a 250 GB IDE drive that's basically useless in my new system.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked great the first time I used it. Then it was down hill after that.

Cons: Tried it on 3 other drives and the computer wouldn't recognize any of those drives. I put it back on the original drive and the computer would not recognize the original drive.
