5 out of 5 eggsWorked as advertised.

Pros: Works!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Needed to transfer data from an older IDE drive to a new PC for my neighbor. Very easy.

4 out of 5 eggsCan be a bit tricky

Pros: It woks.

Cons: A bit slower than my IDE-USB3.0 converter.

Other Thoughts: I use it to fit my WD 80G IDE drive to test out Windows 10 tech preview. Windows 10 won't boot when in SATA mode. Windows 7(installation disc) has the same problem. But when I switched it to an older WD 20G drive, it booted up okay. When in IDE mode, everything works fine, but it's a hassle to have to change the BIOS setting every time I switch the OS (and the hard drive).

The solution is to load vendor SATA driver(works in my case, MB: Asrock Z77 Pro4-M), but Windows 10/whole system is not responsive during boot-up, so the trick is to unplug SATA cable while the system still hangs (the system will respond and enter setup screen), plug it back in, and load driver. (Don't use Asmedia SATA port if you have the same MB.)

Unplug SATA cable, boot Windows installation disc up, and then plug it back in won't work (at least in my case). Windows setup program will complain a mismatch with BIOS detection and refuse to continue.

Everything works fine with Linux(Ubuntu).

1 out of 5 eggsThe danged thing doesn't work

Pros: None, it doesn't work. ... But at least I got some cheap, uselessly short, and utterly outdated cables from the packaging.

Cons: It doesn't work! And, unrelated to it not working but still irksome, the cables that came with it are short, cheap, and won't work with anything else except this useless piece of crud that doesn't work!

Other Thoughts: Two weeks, I've been trying to instal a new MoBo and CPU into my computer. Multiple hurdles in the process have slowed it considerably and now, the part I've been waiting 4 days to arrive for, the FINAL PIECE that would allow me to proceed and finally have a working, seriously upgraded compy... and it doesn't work.

A pox on the makers. Oozing and painful.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When it works, it does what it's supposed to do.

Cons: Ordered 2, 1 is still currently functioning, the other is faulty. While the 1 is working, it is EXTREMELY slow. I expected to see some speed drop over standard ATA 133, however, I am getting MAX 8mbps r/w.

Other Thoughts: Use only in emergencies, for ongoing use just bite the bullet and upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsSolving an Obsolete Problem

Pros: Cleanly designed, Includes required cables. Seem as fast as the original equipment. Very simple to use.

Cons: None that come to mind

Other Thoughts: Allows me to use two serial devices a DVD writer and an older IDE hard drive. Both work well with my Asus Sabertooth motherboard, If it's is slow (remembering that neither of these devices is state of the art. it is not apparent.

5 out of 5 eggsVantec IDE to SATA Converter

Pros: I bought two of them and so far I have just used one. This allows me to use my older IDE DVD drives instead of junking them and it works. Plugged every thing in and drive showed up with a newer motherboard.

Cons: With the current price of DVD drives the price for the adapter could be lower.
