1 out of 5 eggsWast of Money

Pros: None. This thing is JUNK as far as my computer is concerned. If you are a gambler try it good luck!!!

Cons: After making a power cable this thing never would never work. I needed the 2 device converter. Newegg gladley refunded my money. I reordered the other 2 device converter for $29.95. This one worked just FINE for 2 months now.

Other Thoughts: Save your money.

5 out of 5 eggsSata to IDE Converter

Pros: Works perfect
Shipped fast
No drivers or bios change needed

Cons: It can push up against the other IDE connection on your mother board, make sure this card is seated in the connection you are using well, not rubbing up against other cables etc.

Other Thoughts: I used this converter to hook up 2 new SATA DVD burners in my old IDE computer. Once the converter was plugged in properly all is now working well. My computer recognizes both new drives. Remember this converter needs a power plug in, and also you will also need to order SATA power cables for your new SATA devices. A MOLEX to SATA single or splitter (for 2 devices) will do.

3 out of 5 eggsI give up

Pros: it is better suited to running SATA on older PCs that don't have SATA

Cons: like all Vantec items, attempting to use it as a port multiplier for SATA capable mb's just frustrated me. every Vantec SATA port device I have tried (card and this adpater) locks my hard drives out of the boot configuration on my bios.
I got around it with a Syba but I just can't make Vantec work for what I want

Other Thoughts: I really need a SATA II card that lets me just add optical drives. nothing out there seems to work that way. I have to have a non-optical drive in any expansion card (Syba, Vantc) or I can't see my boot drives. my Core Quad lg775 runs decently in Windows 7-64 so I am not likely to see a huge performance improvement with an I7, unless I go to the high end lga2011 extreme edition
with what I p'ed away, I should have bought an 8 port card and ignored my MB

1 out of 5 eggsNot working for me

Pros: No help here.

Cons: Tried this on 2 computers. Both hung on post. Could not get past the attempt to find IDE drives. Bought 2 and both will not function. :-( Back to square 1.

Other Thoughts: Could be OE but I tried everything I could think of.
BIOS is up to date on both computers.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. This adapter is for a SATA to IDE. The adapter that would suit your purpose would be the CB-IS100, which is IDE to SATA.
Best Regards,
Vantec

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MB attached SATA to IDE converter

Pros: Bought one of these a while back and have been extremely pleased with it.
It connects directly to the motherboard, so you can use nice thin SATA cables instead of bulky IDE! It has two SATA ports so you can connect two devices to one IDE channel - no worries about a port going to waste. Unlike some others, the motherboard IDE activity light shows the drive activity when using SATA drives through this device. Works regardless of OS, no drivers needed. Drives are fully bootable, and according to my MB IDE utility it is running at Ultra-DMA mode 5, the full speed of this motherboard's IDE channel.

Cons: As long as you don't need to connect both an SATA and IDE device to the same IDE channel, then none.

Other Thoughts: Motherboard BIOS and OS IDE driver must already have support for drives >127mb in order to fully use large drives with this kind of device.

Pros: 2 sata ports, it seems good.

Cons: The converter does not come with sata power, so it really isn't complete, i still don't know if it works

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None yet.

Cons: I have not yet installed the card but I rechecked for continuity between pins 34 and 40, and I made a mistake. There is an open between the pins. I hope no one made a decision on the module as a recult of my mistake. Sorry.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have not installed the converter yet but I did check the conductiveity between pins 40 and 34 and they are now shorted together so it should support UDMA5 . They must have corrected the original error. Only rated at three until I have tried the card.

Cons: Not yet.
