2 out of 5 eggsConverter would not work

Pros: None.

Cons: Not sure if the product is defective, or if my Dell Optiplex GX260 PC BIOS simply won't recognize the adapter. Only gives a single connection to a drive.

Other Thoughts: Even though this device did not work for me, it may work in another PC as evidenced by other reviews. This device plugs into the motherboard IDE connector, and has only one connector for a single SATA drive. I purchased a BYTE** IDE to SATA adapter, works well, that plugs directly into a SATA CD/DVD drive, so the motherboard will support both IDE devices on the parallel cable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly!!!!!

Pros: Saw some less than stellar reviews on this product. This is because several buyers were confused regarding proper use the product. Short answer: This product plugs into the IDE port of a MOTHERBOARD and NOT the IDE port of a hard drive. I had this working perfectly in 5 minutes with a 2TB SATA drive.

Cons: Nothing worth writing here

Other Thoughts: Great to bring new life to older motherboards by being able to connect SATA drives. Part of the confusion about this product may be because of an incomplete manufacturer description. Again..... a great way to extend the life of older motherboards.

3 out of 5 eggsI dont know what to say.

Pros: I bought this to use my old hard IDE drive, when it arrived everything seem to be working, except for one thing, i bought the wrong part. Darn it!

Cons: Seems to work, although there not way to tell for sure, as i haven't been able to get it up and running. Its my fault really, i bought the wrong part.

2 out of 5 eggsfollow up to "poor description review"

Pros: N/A

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Contacted the manufacturer of the SATA optical drive I was trying to my motherboard and they recommended using a PATA SATA adapter board that clips on to the back of the device. Contacted Newegg and they refunded my money in about 3 minutes. So, the customer service score is Vantec zero, New Egg seven (by a touchdown.) To reiterate, the Vantec technician could not understand the power connection problem and was not even sure I had a Vantec product (I had to describe it's color before he was sure it was theirs.)
***In summary*** - if you require a way to connect a SATA device to an IDE device and you already have a means of powering the SATA device independent of the adapter, then this product is ok.

2 out of 5 eggspoor description

Pros: I cannot rate the positives, because the device cannot be connected without cables which are not included in the original package.

Cons: What you receive is an adapter board with an IDE connection on one side and an SATA Data connection beside a 4 pin power connection on the other side. In my case, I intended to connect a new SATA optical drive to an IDE connection on an older motherboard which had an insufficient number of SATA connections.
The adapter package supplied by Vantec allows me to connect the adapter to the motherboard, and the SATA Data on the adapter to the SATA Data on the optical drive, ***but *** then there is no way to power optical drive without a SATA to 4 pin power cable.

Other Thoughts: If you purchase this adapter, be sure you have a way to power your SATA drive. In my opinion, it is not accurate to describe this product as offering "SATA to IDE" as "converted" if the device's power has also not been converted.

When I called Vantec's customer support the person was not only unable to help me, he was unsure if I had in fact purchased one of their products because of a slight difference in the product code.

I would have rated the product as one egg, but I cannot actually say that it doesn't work as it has yet to be connected...If you have the means to power your SATA device via a 4 pin connection then perhaps this is the right product for you.

4 out of 5 eggsWrong Product Title Description

Pros: This product works better as a IDE to Sata device. NOT a sata to ide... For Sata to IDE - you should get their two port unit; or the "StarTech IDE2SAT IDE" which converts a sata unit to an ide output...

The manufacturers are getting really loose with their descriptions... Anyway - the Vantec cb-sp100 works fine as a IDE to Sata unit. For example - I have a sata hd duplicator. (ByTecc). Needed to copy my wife's ide drive... Bought a sp100 - carefully cut off the side plastic of the connector; slightly bent up the molly power unit - and Voila! One Sata HD duplicator - which also now copies ide drives....

Cons: Too expensive for what you get. You can purchase the vantec cb-is100 and get a plastic encased unit... (But has the correct descript for what its doing...) They're all being made in china, with various companies brand names... and terrible descripts of the purpose of device.

Other Thoughts: This unit does work great as a ide to Sata. As a test - I took an ide drive; ran it thru this (convert to sata) then ran it thru a sata to usb converter - and everything worked just fine... But I purchased it to help make dup's of HD's without spending a ton...

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: None.

Cons: New 500GB Western Digital runs at UDMA Mode 2 under Windows XP Home SP3. It's like running Windows from a CD.

Old Seagate 40GB IDE drive runs at UDMA Mode 5 as slave on secondary.

New drive scores ~33 with HDTach. Old drive scores ~96.

Setting jumper on new drive to force 1.5Gbs makes no difference.

Other Thoughts: Tried a registry fix to force DMA 5 to no avail. What gives Vantec?

1 out of 5 eggsNot that great

Pros: It comes with two cables that you can use, but other then that I couldn't tell you of any.

Cons: Well I purchased this product to connect a new DVD Burner to my computer to replace a older CD Burner. I also have a DVD Rom and they both are connected to a IDE cable. Well this chip, board, whatever you wish to call it makes you place it on the motherboard itself. Which if you do that you will no longer be able to use the DVD Rom. Which I found this highly ignorant on the companies part for what it is meant to do. Meaning bridging the gap of IDE and SATA so you can put SATA into a older computer. I figured it would attach to the cable in which my other drives have been attached to, so it could intergrate the SATA into the rest of the system. Instead this takes the main port from the motherboard so you can only plug one device only. This isn't something I would recommend or purchased if I had known that it did this.

Manufacturer Response:

The CB-SP100 works as a bridge between your motherboard and SATA devices. As the user stated, this device is ideal for any older computers which do not have the sufficient amount of ports to connect a newer SATA device. The CB-SP100 plugs into a IDE controller on the motherboard and then converts the IDE port into a SATA port which is compatible with any SATA device on the market. If you are looking for a 2 SATA port solution, our CB-SP200 convers a single IDE port to 2 SATA ports which can support up to 2 devices. Hope this answers any questions about the product. Thank you and have a nice day!

5 out of 5 eggsJust What I Needed

Pros: I used this converter to put a SATA hard drive on an old desktop computer with IDE ports. The hard drive works great, and the converter was easy to install--I plugged it into the IDE port on the motherboard and plugged in the power adapter. No drivers or software necessary.

Cons: No instructions are included, though there is a diagram on the packaging. This is not really a con, but do know that you'll need a separate adapter to supply power directly to the SATA device itself. A Molex to SATA power adapter will do the job.

Other Thoughts: If you're working with a SATA hard drive, note that, depending on your drive and motherboard, you may need to reduce the transfer rate of the hard drive from 3.0 gb/s to 1.5 gb/s so that it's recognized by older motherboards. You can do this on the drive with a jumper. Check with the manufacturer for the right pins (for my Western Digital drive, it was pins 5 and 6).
