5 out of 5 eggsIgnore the Bad Reviews!

Pros: Now I can use all those toner cartridges I still have stockpiled for my old HP LaserJet 6P!

Cons: Koutech tech support was not helpful.

I thought I saw the printer automatically recognized as I installed Win 7.

I read Alex's review to Koutech support because I did not know how to find the "manual config mode."

Support insisted that I must download the device driver first because Win 7 did not list it under "Devices and Printers."

I could not find the driver on the HP Website, and HP Voice Support said that they no longer provide it.

Other Thoughts: I finally found the HP printer listed under "Other Devices"!

So this worked for Win 7 (after plug'n'play):

Device Manger -> Other Devices -> Double Click on Printer -> Update Driver Software -> Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.

2 out of 5 eggsAnyone know what may have happened?

Pros: better get the device that has the processor part, on it.

Cons: (this is NOT the device) here; it's a cable wth USB and LPT Parallel connector) Just couldn't get a print....; obviously the processor part isn't on the device, I have.

Other Thoughts: I don't have the specific device here; purchased a device with a a paralell port head on one end and a USB (male) attachment; inserted it into my Thinkpad, and the Parallel (male) into the LPT (in) of my HP4; the panel on the printer go the test page signal; the printer's panel lights were blinking, on and off; however no output...not enough information was sent downstream to generate an image to print.

Gues that gizimo on the cable end must be a necessary processor for the bi-directional printing information. Well at least I know. Guess I better look at the wireless Trendnet-type of server (TRENDnet TEW-P1PG Wireless Print Server) if I intend to print from my laptop; think the USB doesn't supplyenough information to print copy.

2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable Specs

Pros: Might work on desktops?

Cons: Does NOT work on Windows Server (2000, 2003, 2008). Despite claims that it does work on Server 2003 and the reason I bought the device. Koutech web site claims it, so it's not Newegg's fault. There are however no drivers for 2003 on the CD, the website and none in the system by default.

Other Thoughts: I am trying to get a hardlock to work on new hardware/OS and the server does not have a parallel port. It just is not going to happen parallel port. I have tried several different adapters - none that work so far even for printers on server 2003.

5 out of 5 eggsSo simple

Pros: I wanted to use my trusty old HP LaserJet 6L on my new PC, which has no parallel port. And, just like the other reviewer says, this thing is plug'n'play in XP. The Add Printer Wizard isn't smart enough to find the printer automatically, but in manual config mode, there's a pull-down menu for printer ports that includes the USB virtual printer port. After selecting the virtual printer port and the make/model of printer, it printed out a perfect test page.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsOld is new again.

Pros: Works very well. We're running an ancient, but perfectly good Epson 1520 parallel printer, (no USB port). The printer doesn't normally run on XPsp2. No problem w/ adapter, though. We don't have to buy a new printer and we get more than satisfactory results.

Cons: None. Unbox, hook up, run software disk, print.

1 out of 5 eggsFalse Advertising and Bad Service

Pros: None that I experienced. Maybe it would work with printer if you need that but I suggest getting a different one just cause I don't trust anything this company.

Cons: On both newegg and koutech's site it says "Enable you to connect your printers, and other parallel devices to any PC." Well that is just a lie, the driver for this thing shows up as USB Printing Support and does not give you anything resembling a parallel port.

Other Thoughts: When I called up their tech support I got some guy who barely spoke english and insisted that since they got it to work with a scanner that it should work with any and all other parallel devices. He also lied and told me they had gotten it to work with other devices which he latter admitted wasn't true. So don't waste your time with this company. I'm spending a little extra for a PCMCIA adapter that'll do the trick if you need a true parallel port for your laptop.
