1 out of 5 eggsrevistit more info

Pros: packaging is nice

Cons: I just want to say I tried several times, different ways to get this junk to work. I disconnected other auxilliary software and hardware to only have a C drive and this to try to get it to work and it still failed. In fact I have never bought any adapter for anything that worked. I have bought 3 of these from different sources and companies that haven't worked,. I have bought several other types of adapters that didn't work, so I no longer even try to get a replacement because they won't work either. My thinking is that enough people that purchase these things don't demand a refund, which keeps these clowns in business.

1 out of 5 eggspure junk

Pros: none

Cons: bulky. my 2 slots are soldiered front to back on my intel board and cannot accept two of this fat thing. but mainly my computer cannot even see it when I plug it in and connect a drive to it, the drive doesn't show up anywhere.

1 out of 5 eggsNo power cable

Pros: lets you use sata drives in older pcs

Cons: mine was shipped in some generic opened box with no power cable.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this so I can use an old sata drive I had laying around in an older computer that had a bad HDD. just got it today and it came in some generic box(not the one in the pictures) that has already been opened and there was no power cable.

5 out of 5 eggsread the reviews!!!!

Pros: I'm sure this device works perfect, it's just that i got the wrong one this one plugs into your motherboard and allows you to plug in a sata drive.......I needed the IO-ASA100 which plugs into your ata hdd and allows you to connect it to a sata port

Cons: non that i am aware of, just unclear discription

Other Thoughts: clear up the description and no one needs to buy the wrong one again, i ordered the one i needed, but didn't even check on returning this one not sure it would be worth the time and postage after restock fee

5 out of 5 eggsSimple plug and play

Pros: Works as advertised right out of the box. Connects to the motherboard rather than the drive, so I don't need a nasty IDE cable running through my case.

Cons: It failed to get me more dates.

Other Thoughts: My computer had trouble recognizing a PCIE SATA card. This thing did the trick and allowed me to get one more drive into my Windows Home Server machine.

1 out of 5 eggsVery BADLY Described Product

Pros: None yet.

Cons: Hmm... I wrote the first review here for this product and am kind of ticked off about how the product is described. NewEgg shows a picture of the top side of the converter dongle in this product page, but if they showed the bottom side, you'd see a picture of a sticker with a picture of an IDE hard drive. The label underneath the picture even says, "IDE HDD". I have a feeling that the manufacturer either put the wrong sticker on the dongle, or the sticker itself is a misprint.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks if you order right one

Pros: I found out through Koutech that I ordered the wrong unit. Koutech's customer service was great!!!!!!!

Cons: The description should be more detailed.

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit because I thought it would let me be able to use my old IDE DVD writer and plug into a sata port on the motherboard. I was wrong. This unit does exactly the opposite. It allows you to use a sata DVD or a hard drive and be able to plug it into an IDE port on your motherboard. I found out from Koutech that I should have ordered the ASA100, so I did and guess what it did. Works perfectly.

4 out of 5 eggsMake sure you read

Pros: I am still waiting to find out if it is me or the device, but the customer service from Koutech was great, they called me first business day after I sent email.

Cons: The description of the product should be better explained.

Other Thoughts: I really thought my understanding was right when I read the description, but I apparently missed where the word (device) is location in the description. It says IDE to SATA device which means according to Koutech that it will convert SATA device to hook up to your IDE connector on your motherboard. I was told that I need the ASA100 to convert my IDE drive to hook to the SATA connector on the motherboard. The ASA100 should be here today and I will find out for sure. I will update as soon as I know for sure. Do not buy this product if you are not sure what your getting.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: Nice design (if it worked).

Cons: The molex connectors are the cheapest I've ever seen. The individual plugs are so badly machined that whenever you attempt to plug the unit's male molex connector into your PC's female plug, the male plugs either push out the back end of the male molex plug, or the plug tines will start to splay out and become unusable (I had to use a needle nose plier to press the male plug tines to a usable state).

Other Thoughts: I attempted to get this adapter to work with 3 different IDE drives. I had already verified that each IDE drive was recognized by my WinXP and Vista systems when these systems were booted with the drives set to 'slave' (also tested in 'cable-select' mode). Neither OS could recognize the drives when the IDE to SATA adapter was connected. I verified that the drives were spinning up and that the adapter's power light was on.

This leaves me with two possiblities: A) Either the adapter is broken, or B) The thing is so badly engineered, it wouldn't work anyway.

I have never been unlucky enough to buy anything from NewEgg that was not a quality piece of equiment, so I guess there's an exception to every rule. NewEgg really needs to test some of the product they sell. If they had even taken a perfunctory look at this piece of junk, they would never have put it in-stock.
