1 out of 5 eggsWish it Worked!

Pros: None, if you want to use this with a DVD burner.

Cons: Every time you try and burn a DVD it either locks up the machine or fails to complete.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had paid more attention to the other reviews discussing it failing when burning a DVD. The DVD burner is recognized correctly and it will play DVDs and CDs fine, but as soon as you try and burn a DVD it fails. It is not the DVD burner because I went ahead and hooked it up using a SATA connection on the mother board and the DVD burner worked fine.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Nicely built. The plastic housing eliminates any worries about shorting against something else in the PC. I used this adapter to attach an SSD to an old computer. Despite the PATA limitations, performance was excellent and I experienced no problems at all.

Cons: The connector spacing is not optimal. If you want to use this on a 2.5" drive, the adapter sticks out to the side due to the positioning of the SATA connector. Thus, it may not fit on a 3.5" to 2.5" bracket. Also, the power connector is reversed compared to normal PATA hard drives, so you will need to twist your power cable to plug it in.

Other Thoughts: Ideally, the master/slave jumper should have been placed between the PATA data and power connections, to more closely resemble a standard PATA drive. Consistency like that would make cabling easier and would allow this adapter to be used in more applications, such as the PS2 HDD adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Great!

Pros: Worked exactly like it should with no extra drivers needed.

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: This thing gets reviews on all scales. I personally had no problem hooking this up to a Pioneer Optical drive, and it worked great with no issues at all.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid, but could be better...

Pros: The adapter is completely sealed, unlike other adapters I have seen. It seems to be well made with solid connectors and a snug fit. I purchased 2 of these to install SATA hard drives into my PS2 and original Xbox. The adapter fits nicely into my Xbox with plenty of breathing room, but...

Cons: ...the HDD adapter for my PS2 has molded connectors that don't align at all with the IDE/SATA adapter. Also, the power connector is upside down so I'm forced to use additional adapters to install it into my PS2.

Other Thoughts: As far as I know, there isn't another SATA to IDE adapter on the market that will fit the Playstation 2's HDD adapter. Other adapters have the IDE pins "upside down" and are too large to fit into the Playstation 2 HDD bay. The only way I know to get this to work is to make an IDE male-to-female cable and use a molex power extension cable. These adapters seem to work very well with the laptop hard drives I will be installing in my game consoles. 4/5 eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with CD/DVD Burners

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Does not work with CD/DVD Burners! When used with a CD/DVD Burner, the drive will work fine when reading CD's or DVD's. But as soon as you try to burn a CD or a DVD the computer will lock up.

Installed this in my Mac Pro. System hung in both Windows and OS X when trying to burn to CD or DVD.

1 out of 5 eggsThis product is useless!

Pros: None that I could name...

Cons: This product is described as a IDE to SATA adapter, in reality, it is a SATA to IDE!!!! COMPLETELY OPPOSITE OF WHAT IT WAS DESCRIBED! I'd advise you to not waist your time and money on this, and just buy a new SATA HDD...

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but ....

Pros: I bought this to use with a 2.5" SATA SSD in place of a 3.5" IDE hard drive in an old Apple Cube, which surprisingly still has an active enthusiast community. Using a custom mounting sled, the adapter and drive work OK in the Cube.

Cons: For some reason, the 4-pin power connector on the IDE side is reversed or upside-down from the normal orientation of a 3.5" drive. On a standard drive, the 5V (red) lead is closest to the IDE connector. On this adapter, the 12V (yellow) lead is next to the IDE connector. This may not matter in most applications, but in the tight confines of the Cube, it required modification of the power cable to get it to fit.

Other Thoughts: Pricier than other SATA-IDE adapters, but its components are covered, not exposed like other adapters.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Allowed use of a newer, and cheaper, SATA drive where an IDE drive was previously.

Cons: Somewhat thick if space is an issue

Other Thoughts: This little device allowed me to install a newer gen SATA drive into my Tivo S2 box that requires an IDE drive, which are harder to find and more expensive. With nothing more than what came in the box, it was up and running without issues, and continues to work fine.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works perfectly on a traditional SATA II hard drive, no erros hard drive errors yet
Data transfer speed appears unaffected by the device which is great
Supports very large hard drives. No problems with my 1.5TB drive and 1TB drives.

Cons: Optical drives are a different story, you can expect to play movies, music, or read what ever is on it fine. CD, DVD, and BD burning almost always seems to result in an error.

Other Thoughts: LightScribe drives appear in incapable of of using lightScribe with this device
