5 out of 5 eggsGood Cheap Little Inverter

Pros: This was very cheap here on newegg. Other people have stated that its loud. Its super small and if you want hear loud then get a large inverter. This one did what I needed it too do. Unit did not get hot and charged quickly.

Cons: none to date yet

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, great price

Pros: Small, compact size and light weight for road warriors
Works with both types of aircraft power ports with a good design
Price -- $5 after rebate

Cons: USB charging is 500ma slow -- have not tried with shorted cable to see if it will charge at 1a or higher. Targus web page does not list output.

Other Thoughts: I've owned the much larger Belkin "AC Anywhere" 140 watt and dual plug 300 watt units for years. This Targus unit is much smaller, much lighter, and has a USB port built in. It's also a fraction of the price ($5 after rebate vs ~$28)

Note: The USB appears to charge at 500ma, same as a computer. It won't fry any electronics (it also works to power my Garmin GPS, charge my portable speaker box, can charge my old car mp3 player, etc), but it will charge modern, power-hungry cell phones more slowly than 1a or 2a charger.

I travel a lot--the Targus unit is much smaller and lighter than most box converters. It provides enough power for both my laptops. I don't like the single-body type of adapter as they don't work well on airplanes (bumps into another person's leg) or cars (higher risk of bumping them and breaking car socket).

The fan is slightly louder than other converters I've used, but it's not that loud. A smaller fan has to spin faster; trust me it's not an issue unless you place it near your head. It's usually at my feet, and I don't notice it.

Airplanes use two types of power ports; the standard car AC "cigarette lighter" type adapter, and the small two-prong type.

- Most units (including Belkin) have the car plug standard, and I have to carry an aircraft a/c adapter with me. It's an extra cable to lug around, risk losing, for the few times I need it.

- This Targus unit has the small, two-prong a/c adapter standard, with a plug on for the car a/c plug. I natually keep the car plug attached. This works better as 95% of the time, I use the car A/C plug, so I always have it.

The few times I need the aircraft seat plug, I pop off the car version and plug in the aircraft end. I only have an extra cable to track 5% of the time, and I'm on the airplane so it's a contained environment and I'm not likely to lose it.

This is a great unit, at an awesome price.

2 out of 5 eggstoo loud

Pros: none

Cons: very loud fan, even when there is nothing plugged in, weak USB output

Other Thoughts: i have another inverter which has no fan yet is able to go up to 150 watt....this one is too loud...would be somewhat more tolerable only if it gets hot and the fan kicks in.... but the loud fan turns on the moment you plug it in the cigarette lighter.... i would like to return it but it is non-returnable
