5 out of 5 eggsItWorks

Pros: Came Fast, Handed it over to the guy who requested it. Haven't heard anything since (usually means its working great. People don't usually come to me unless its broken.)

Cons: None?

2 out of 5 eggsWorks if you never restart

Pros: Allows for USB connections to older hardware. Most laptops don't have a DB9 port anymore, so this device is theoretically useful as an adapter.

Cons: Purchased this unit to replace a Xtatix version of the same thing. The drivers for both units switch COM ports when the computer is rebooted, and the COM ports in use are not released when the device is removed. Eventually you run out of available COM ports. Had stop-n-start luck with this unit - it would communicate about every third time the driver was reinstalled. This is with a Keri Systems electronic access control system, so flaky functionality doesn't cut it.

Other Thoughts: If you just need to get your serial mouse or keyboard working with your newer computer, you might be able to get by with this unit. Anything that requires a static COM port assignment between reboots (e.g. games with joysticks) probably won't work unless you're willing to go find the correct COM port and then configure the software for it each time.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't work with Garmin

Pros: Well made, comes in a package you don't have to destroy to get to the product. A driver CD is included for pc's. Unit includes a blue light to let the user know that the unit is active.

Cons: This product was purchased specifically to interface with Garmin serial cables. It will not work with Garmin serial cables. The Garmin updater will not find the Garmin GPS unit when it is connected.

Other Thoughts: For this specific application it will not work. Either on a pc or Mac.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: My new computer had no serial port to run my ancient Wacom Digitizer II art pad. This pad connects 12 VDC power directly to the serial port via the tablet plug and I had my doubts anything would work. This thing worked first time with no problem. Installed the plug, rebooted, 'found new hardware Wizard' appeared, inserted CD to install driver, and it was done. I never heard of this company, but product appears to be quality made.

Cons: None really, although I see the price recently went up. Still worth it though.

Other Thoughts: Every time I upgrade, I have to throw away peripherals that are still perfectly good. There's always something missing on the new motherboard that used to be standard. Does this ever bother anyone else?
