1 out of 5 eggsMight as well order the photo

Pros: Thing was DOA.Checked the voltages and this thing was dead on arrival. Got the same functionality as you would a sheet of paper. Yes, that is the Pro.....

Cons: Cons? I wasted a minute writing a review for garbage.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This arrived with no instructions... I originally had trouble getting these to work, but then I realized that you must connect power to HD and power to converter.

These all work great now.

Cons: No instructions on setting up.

Other Thoughts: I don't use these for Boot Drives.. never tried. I just use these to make my old IDE drives as additional storage.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Cheap, doesn't work

Other Thoughts: I;ve purchased several items from NewEgg over the course of several years and this is the first one that didn't work out of the box. Not NewEgg's fault, appears to be a bad board or one of its componets. Would probably do the job it was designed for if it wasn't DOA, Right out of the box the LED never came on.

Cons: Get real...none

Other Thoughts: Ideal for not filling landfill with outdated hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprised me

Pros: Updated with thin rubber insulator on back to avoid shorts. Works with ultra 133 pata HDD I had laying around. Works with DVD-RW combo drive I had laying around. Everything detected with Vista Sp1 (wait for it)...I had laying around, all installed in a Foxconn I55 barebones. Built for Windows 8 box I wanted to try.

Cons: Hard to get out of a really ancient 10 GB HDD I tried it in first. Needs lots of power connector splitters.

Other Thoughts: If you have old stuff you bought on closeout years ago and don't need cutting edge, buy it .

1 out of 5 eggsstill confused on how to get this to work

Pros: it was only 3.99

Cons: cant get them to work i tried to put them on the ide port on the motherboard and bio and windows wont pick it up tried to put it on an ide hard drive and a cd-rom and neither worked i like to think of myself as computer literate and and educated since i have a degree in pc science but these things baffle me they should send out instruction and they should package them better instead of just some plastic container without a static charge bag.

Other Thoughts: maybe the ones i got were junk but they were only 3.99 now i see the price has jumped to 10.99 for that price i think i would just buy a pci exp card and call it a day hope this review helps someone

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Adaptor

Pros: Great adaptor. Works fine, easy to install. Comes with everything you need and even has a led light so you know when the HDD is active. I like this and I would recommend it. And it also made my hard drive faster. Went from 4.4 to 4.8 in Windows experience.

Cons: No cons that I can think of.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks OK, but not AHCI mode for me

Pros: It works fine for me in BIOS IDE mode, only.

Read previous reviews about Master/Slave settings.

The SATA cable in my package was 18" long.

Cons: You'll want to snip the somewhat long power connector leads protuding from back of board to reduce the chance of it shorting out to your device. Adding an insulating pad would be wise. What were they thinking with the supplied power adapter cable? Should have been one male, one female 4-pin and the floppy drive end. Instead, you get two female 4-pins and the floppy drive end. If you don't have your own separate floppy drive cable power, you'll need a workaround solution.

Other Thoughts: Sadly, I wanted to use this with my board in AHCI mode (Asus P6X58D-E). Configured this way, it took the BIOS 1-2 minutes to decide that it even wanted to let me veiw the BIOS screen. After a brief check, I rebooted to a Win7x64 OS mechanical SATA drive and after several minutes got to the Desktop. Had to uninstall the MS SATA controller driver and use the Intel ICH10R to get the drive to work, though (OK). Then, rebooted to a Win7x64 OS SSD drive. Windows startup stalled out and never made it to the Desktop. Had to do a forced shutdown.

Conclusion: If you're going to run your computer in IDE mode, you can probably get this to work. If you're running in AHCI mode, based on my particular setup, you may not be successful. Your better choice (unless you require the drive to boot) may be a similar style bridge card with USB out.

Hope my experience with this is helpful and leads someone smarter than me to offer a better answer as to why it works for some and not others.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great, but lack of instructions sucks

Pros: Works exactly as it should.
The drive can still be removed from a narrow bay (such as hot swap bay) with it on.

Cons: No instructions, if you don't figure out drive jumpers must be set to master, you could return this thing thinking it doesn't work.
Needs separate power cable.

Other Thoughts: A perfect version of this device would plug not only into the IDE data port on the HD, but also the power port, and it should accept a SATA power conenctor on the other side. That way this could hook up exactly as a SATA drive would and not take all sorts of extra cables. I'm surprised no one makes anything like this.
