1 out of 5 eggsNot Linux-compatible

Pros: Pretty packaging that you don't have to destroy to open it. Product appears to be solidly built, and the LED goes on.

Cons: Fails to provide drive information to Linux (Ubuntu 14.04.3). Product page unfortunately fails to state compatibility requirements. If you're running Linux, don't waste your time on this. If you're running windoze, it'll probably be pretty darn cool. Went to the Bytecc website after it didn't work, and that clearly states Win only, as does the packaging. Bad me for not doing enough homework, and bad product specs that don't show this.

3 out of 5 eggsnot power esata

Pros: dunno

Cons: the external drive need its own power supply because no power from USB

Other Thoughts: I bought this to hook up an external SSD using a power esata (esata+usb combo plug) to sata cable. This adapter only supports esata without supplying the power to the external SSD.

3 out of 5 eggsA so-so product

Pros: They are high speed and simple. They function nicely as a bridge between a laptop with USB 3.0 and a drive enclosure with ESATA. I've also configure them directly to a bare drive, they worked very nicely in that instance too.

Cons: While they work well for a variety of things, but they fall short for long sustained operations. I've had these for years, but recently while copying large backups (filesize >200GB) they seem to overheat and crash. They work again when I restart the operation, but it becomes time consuming.

Other Thoughts: I have a handful of these converters and I've used them for the number of things, including a cheap DIY DVR (for several months). For lightweight operations they're great. I can move data at 100MB/sec, but only in bursts. Expecting them to run full throttle for a few hours has failed over and over. I may try cracking one open and attaching a heatsink... If I get to it, and it goes well, I'll post another review explaining it.

1 out of 5 eggsdoesn't work

Pros: would have been nice to connect my eSata HD to USB 3.0

Cons: doesn't work, constantly drops connection in the middle of file transferring. Email support at BYTECC, never got any answer. Will never buy anything of this brand again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great on a mac

Pros: Used this (and an eSATA cable) to connect the eSATA port of an external RAID enclosure (USB2,/FW800/eSATA) to the USB3 port on my Mac-Mini(2012). Just plugged it in and the drive mounted. The observed 240 MB/s performance is a 3x speed improvement over the FW800 connection and a 6x improvement over the USB3/USB2 connection. No heating of the adapter is noticed over hours of operation. The adapter is light and easily supported by the cables.

Cons: None noted.

5 out of 5 eggsUseful & Inexpensive Tool

Pros: This device is simple to use. Plugged it into my Lenovo T440s USB 3 slot and then plugged my eSATA hard drive into the adapter. Windows easily connected the drive and showed it in explorer. I regularly write 40 to 50 GB sized files to the external eSATA drive. Throughput averages about 750 megabits per second. Highest throughput has been about 1 gigabit per second. I am very satisfied with the adapter and find it more than suitable. I have NOT noted any high temperatures on the adapter after these transfers. It does get modestly warm, may 85-90 degrees F., but nothing that is a worry. It is a good value for an inexpensive price.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great on Mac OS

Pros: - lowest price of all USB 3 to eSATA adapters
- the short cable with larger dongle attached does not block adjacent USB ports
- inexpensive way to connect USB 2/eSATA peripherals to my Macs for the faster speed of eSATA over USB 2

Cons: - does not support port multipliers (multiple drives in one box), but I knew that going in so its not a problem

Other Thoughts: I bought this for use on an LG BE12LU38 Blu Ray burner. Works great for my intended purposes. Unit gets warm, but not hot.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works!

Pros: I like its design because it's easier if you need to connect to a laptop without blocking other ports. I've connected to both PC and Macbook Pro and it works with no problem at all. I have a RAID5 tower which is eSATA only, I didn't want to buy another tower with USB 3.0 port so this comes in handy. Both PC and Macbook recognize it right away. I transferred like 2.5TB files to my RAID tower.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: I bought the adapter about a month or so but did not try to use it until two days ago. I tried to do a redundant back-up of about 200 GB to a 1TB external hard drive using this adapter. The data began to move at lightning speed until it stopped with an error message "Error while copying [a photo file], error splicing file: input/output error, error creating directory, no such file or directory. Interestingly, I had just copied [backed-up] the folder over the network to another computer and everything copied over without error. I tried the same back-up a second time and the LED light on the adapter turned off indicating no data was moving, which was also indicated by the LED on the external hard drive. I concluded that the adapter is toast. My $16.00+ is lost. The adapter appears to be junk, and not worth the cost in time and postage to return.
