5 out of 5 eggsBought for 2012 MacBook Pro (non-Retina version)

Pros: Single cable transfers audio and video from the MacBook Pro running Plex to my receiver with a built-in HDMI switcher. The cable matches the MacBook. Video resolution was 1080p.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The trick is to plug in the laptop to an outlet, then, with the laptop lid open, plug the cable into the MacBook and HDMI device. Once the second screen pops up on the HDMI device, close the lid to activate clamshell mode. Used the Apple Remote to control Plex as I don't like using an external keyboard for control. The only problem is when Plex crashes. You can't click any buttons, even with a mouse. You need to open the laptop, press the LauchPad or Mission Control button to get the Finder window so you can kill the crashed process.

1 out of 5 eggsLow quality, artifacts in image

Pros: It does work, albeit poorly. I guess that's a pro.

Cons: Image quality is poor. On dark images, random white specks and horizontal red lines will quickly appear and disappear on the screen. The cable is also clearly cheaply manufactured, looks almost like someone bought the end pieces at radio shack and put it together with a their own crimper.

Other Thoughts: Spend a few more dollars and get a decent quality cable.

4 out of 5 eggsIF YOU USE A MAC

Pros: Well, it works, but not for what I wanted. It works on my tv, but not on the second monitor I bought. Maybe Apple is a little picky about how you connect your monitors..

Cons: I ended up going with a Belkin mini displayport-to-hdmi adapter (male to female) and then buying an hdmi (male to male) cord too. As soon as I plugged it in this time it instantly recognized the second monitor, where as before it would show as there being no signal on the second monitor and then go in to stand-by mode.

Other Thoughts: It works great for the tv, but not for the second monitor I bought for my mac.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks better than $40+ version

Pros: I use this cable to connect my MacBook Pro (new June 2012 version) to an external monitor. I bought this as a second one as I have two offices. I will now be ordering another of these as the first one (purchased from the Apple store for 3x the cost of this one) no longer works after one month of use.

This cable successfully passes audio for me; perhaps other reviewers have older model MacBook Pros than mine and that's the issue.

Cons: Much longer than I need it to be.

Other Thoughts: Why spend more?

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not pass audio

Pros: Video worked just fine.

Cons: This does not pass audio like the product claims. My monitor immediately states that this cable is not capable of transmitting audio.

Other Thoughts: If you aren't looking to transmit audio over this cable, it'll work just fine. If you need audio, find other options.

5 out of 5 eggswindows user

Pros: works fine with 6870 mini displayport

Cons: white

Other Thoughts: I am using this with sapphire 6870 video card hooked up to Dell 2410 monitor (1920 x 1200) no speakers.
works fine, although I don't use the audio through put, so can't write regarding that.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not pass audio to Mac book pro

Pros: Video output works and connectors fit.

Cons: The Mac book pro does not recognize this as an audio device, so there is no audio output through the cable. The description says it can pass audio.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: Bright, clean, and good looking.
Feels well made.
Works perfectly!
MUCH simpler than using an adapter and an HDMI plug. With this, it's only one cord to deal with!

Cons: A little longer than I needed, but that isn't really a problem.

Other Thoughts: I got this today and it does exactly what I needed it to. I've been looking into buy a second display (just to watch YouTube on while I work, so that I wouldn't have to deal with a dozen miniature windows on one screen), and I realized I could possibly use my TV. All I needed was a way to connect it to my Mac's Thunderbolt port. This was exactly what I needed. Much simpler then using an adapter AND a HDMI cord. One end plugs into my Mac, the other into my TV. Works great!
