4 out of 5 eggsMet my needs

Pros: Fast shipping. Used to connect HP Pavilion laptop to Vivitek overhead projector. It will need the USB power that was supplied.

Cons: Resolution was down on laptop but acceptable.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Overhead projector

Pros: Easy to use and install. We use this to allow presenters to use their laptops to connect to our oldschool overhead projector in the meeting room. SInce many new laptops no longer have a vga out, they just plug the HDMI into their laptop and the adaptor connects them to the overhead.

Cons: If you need more cable, this is not the device for you. You have about 20 inches of USB for power and about 4 inches of HDM to the adapter. For us, this is perfect as less cords it a good thing.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast shipping and it works unlike others I have bought else where!

Cons: None that I know of right now, just came in today.

Other Thoughts: If you need a converter, this is a good one. It worked, price isn't to bad. I bought a different one from a different site that was cheaper and this seems to be one of those you get what you pay for items. Works great so far!

1 out of 5 eggsCould not get it to work

Pros: Price was low enough to test

Cons: Didn't work on our Samsung HD TVs
Commercial Samsung TVs with RapidRun VGA cable back to table, used adaptor on computer end for laptops with HDMI only outputs. No matter what resolution we tried we could not get the display to stay on the TV. It would go on and off constantly. And I bought two of them now have to struggle with RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works, but....

Pros: - It works.

Cons: -Bulky?

Other Thoughts: I wanted to add a note to anyone that going to purchase this to add to an MHL device, like you want to display the phone onto a monitor.
Make sure your monitor supports the output resolution.
Chances are you cannot chance the outgoing resolution from your phone, which renders the device useless if the monitor doesn't support given resolution.

Also, before anyone bashes this device.
In order to convert HDMI to VGA you need power due the nature of the signal, ence the USB power cable.
Those conversion cables HDMI on one end and VGA on another with no power input do not work.

5 out of 5 eggsWin/Lose

Pros: It actually works. Despite the best attempts of my monitor, I was able to get the adapter to work. It even supports actual monitor resolutions. Thanks to my monitor's panel being glitched, I am now getting crystal clear 1024x768 on this adapter, but 1280x1024 works too. It's not like you only get 720P or whatever garbage they have these days.

Cons: I actually needed it and it's not cheap by any stretch. Too bad it isn't cheaper to buy a new monitor. It's seriously a joke that this thing even has to exist.

Other Thoughts: What happened to video cards with dual DVI-D? Who uses freaking VGA+HDMI? Well, I do now if you count this adapter.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Works in my new laptop which only features an HDMI out for an external monitor. The monitor at my workplace is an older LCD that only features VGA input with a 1280x1024 resolution. Was not sure if it would work, but I took the gamble and won. It works perfectly.

Cons: None for me really. Maybe the requirement for external power via USB? But not really.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had found this initially on Newegg. Went into a local store to buy something else that they said they had in stock, but was nowhere to be found when I visited that store. They bait-switched me to the HM-VGA005 at a much higher price than Newegg. Their customer service was also terrible. Newegg has always had stellar customer service, and fast shipping. I really wish that I had purchased from Newegg as it would have saved me a great deal of time and frustration.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: If you have a current model Macmini6,2 (Late 2012) and if you have a monitor whose native resolution is one of the supported display resolutions, than this may be what you have been looking for.

All in all, the performance is not perfect, but it is acceptable. And this was the only USB powered HDMI to VGA Adapter that I have been able to find.

Some would consider it a design defect, but the current model, (Late 2012) of Mac mini, doesn't seem to provide enough power over it's HDMI connector to run this type of "dongle" adapter/converter. This unit gets around that issue by getting power from a USB port.

It did seem to work with both Tripp Lite B042-008 and IO Gear GCS1718 VGA KVM switches, which has also been a problem with this and the prior Macmini5,3 and Macmini4,1 testing.

Cons: This adapter also claims to support the WUXGA(1920x1200 RB) resolution, which some other adapters don't. But, when used with a Dell 2408WFP, it was less sharp than when used with other Macs and it left a 1/2-3/4" border around the outside of the LCD black and unused.
