5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works as advertised. Plugs into the the SATA drive with a solid snap. Very fast throughput. Works on the same IDE cable with my DVDRW drive without affecting the speed.

Cons: The PC board sticks out to the side of my SSD drive.
This could present a mounting problem for some people.

Other Thoughts: I tested my SSD OCZ Vertex 2 drive with Atto using three different IDE to SATA converters. This one was the fastest. I got 108 MB /Sec Read and 77 MB / Sec write speed. A similar priced Conveter was 102 MB /Sec and 75 MB /Sec. Another no-name Converter was 92 MB / Sec and 75 MB / Sec. And a regular platter type IDE drive gave readings of 40 MB /Sec read and write.
My motherboard as an old Asrock Socket 939 SATA II with an Ali chipset. The IDE controller is an Ali M5229 IDE Bus Master built into the motherboard.
The OCZ toolbox also works when connected to the IDE to SATA Converter. It would not work with the SSD connected to any of the SATA ports on my motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid product

Pros: plug in simple and worked without a hitch. It has a jumper so you can use in master or slave channel, allowing the use of two drives per controller. (some other makes of this only allow 1 drive per controller)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: just make sure if you are installing a new drive on an older system make sure your system supports the drive. Dont blame this adapter if you system wont support the drive your installing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: It was easy to install (if you know how to take your case apart). It took me a little longer b/c it was my first replacement. Easy to install without looking at directions. Works great from the start!

Cons: none that I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need it to

Pros: -Works without any fancy drivers
-Still recognized as the hard drive (or SSD in my case) installed so you can update firmware through it
-Cheap and easy to install

Cons: As a previous user stated it's hard to install on an SSD and squeeze into a case, luckily I was able to maneuver it in well enough.
Not too sure what I should blame my low read/writes on, read other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I installed this on an Intel X-25M for an old Dell Dimension 4550. I'm getting a constant 30.5MB/s read on it so I'm not sure if it's the converter because a previous user stated he got 50MB/s on his OCZ drive. My drive is pre-used by a company that put it through a bunch of stress tests so it only says it has 30Gb's total space when it's supposed to have 80Gb's so it's possible it's the drive itself or it could be the 8 year old mobo is starting to die, who knows. I put this in my parents desktop because the HDD failed and I figured why spend 4x the money on a new HDD when I could get this and re-use an SSD that my laptop fails to recognize. Runs better then new.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: - master / slave jumper
- fast data transfer rates
- small size
- includes 80 pin cable

Cons: - The printed circuit board butted up against the back of the SSD drive I installed preventing the SATA connector from going in 100%. However, the connection still felt firm, so I suspect this won't be a problem.

- The only installation instructions are three diagrams on the back of the retail box.

Other Thoughts: Although none of the retail packaging indicates this, the jumper is for the master / slave setting. I received the following clarification from VinPower's technical support: "The IDESA1.0 card does support master/slave. The J3 controls that. If you take out the jumper it will be slave and if you put it on, it will be master."

Note that the SATA connector is aligned for a 3.5" device. It did not physically fit into the 2.5" to 3.5" bracket I planned on using, a Silverstone SDP08, so I made my own, off-center bracket instead.

I used this adapter to install an OCZ Solid-2 SSD in an old iMac G4 (I know, I know...) that has an ATA-5 (UDMA-66) bus, so I am not fully testing its performance. Nevertheless, this combination achieved a transfer rate of 50 MB/s. I think it's pretty impressive that this adapter managed to bridge the gap between a brand new SSD and an eight-year-old, odd-ball computer!
