Connect a 2.5in / 3.5in SATA or IDE Hard Drive through a USB 3.0 Port. The adapter lets you connect a bare drive with no enclosure, saving time and hassle.

The USB 3.0 SATA/IDE Adapter lets you externally connect a bare drive with no drive enclosure or HDD dock required, and features LED indicators that allow you to easily monitor status and activity updates.

The adapter cable works with Windows, Linux, and Mac computers and does not require any software or driver installation - a true plug-and-play solution for adding cost-effective external storage, or overcoming incompatibility between all hard drives and USB enabled motherboards that may not be SATA or IDE-equipped.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Got the product quickly. Plugged it in and it works. What more could I want. No hassles. Worked with multiple hard drives that I have been using,

Cons: None yet

5 out of 5 eggsIt does work

Pros: It does everything it's supposed to do.

Cons: I wish the Newegg description had been more complete. I wasn't sure until I opened the package that it would contain a power supply for the hard drives. But it does, and it even contains a couple of power cables for non-USA sockets. Nice.

Other Thoughts: I'm writing this review for the benefit of people who are as dense as I am. I have spent the bulk of this afternoon trying to get this thing going. Turns out the product works, but only if you do things in the right order. If you are dealing with SATA drives, you probably won't have any problems. I didn't, anyway. But when I tried to access my old IDE drives, I couldn't get them to show up in Windows 10. Nothing worked until I did this: 1) Be sure the IDE drive's jumper is set for "slave," assuming you're working with it on an SATA system. 2) Don't plug the Adapter/Converter into the USB 3.0 socket yet. 3) Plug the adapter and the power cord into the drive, turn on the power switch, and be sure the drive has had enough time to get up to speed. 4) Now plug the USB cable into your computer's USB 3.0 socket. At this point Windows 10 should see the drive. Worked for me. Good luck!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for service providers/computer assembly

Pros: usb 3.0 speeds
multiple wall sockets supported (USA, European, Etc)
Power supply with separate On/Off Swiches
works for CD/DVD/Bluray sata/ide drives too (as tested so far)

Cons: Although u can turn of the power supply (that goes directly to the Device being connected) the adapter keeps active, confusing the computer forcing you to also disconnect the adapter if not in use.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with 4TB Drives

Pros: Works with 4TB Drives
Works with OS X.6.8

Cons: USB Cable a little short

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my review from last year. After trying several different USB / SATA adapters I finally found one that supports 4TB drives. The others that I tried did not support anything larger than 2TB. This adapter might support drives larger than 4TB but I do not have any to test with.

5 out of 5 eggsOld to new

Pros: Don't have to mess with any enclosures and I can connect any kind of hard drive I have.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have read reviews about short cords but if your working with enough space to set it down it"s really not a problem at all.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes a great job

Pros: Compatible with USB 3.0/2.0/1.1
Built in connectors for both 2.5/3.5" SATA HDD/SSDs
Built-in LED indicators
Compact, portable form factor
Hot swap and plug and play compatible

Cons: Full price is the only con I have. As far as tech cons none so far. no install problems, no problem with cables be to short (then again I don't let my brick hang either). Works exactly as I expected.

Other Thoughts: A little high priced at the standard price but if you setup a price alert you can pick it up for a good deal like I did for $33.99.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat device

Pros: Great compatibility
USB 3.0 speed

Cons: Cable from brick to HDD way too short. If you keep the HDD on a table and connect it, the brick will hang in the air pulling the HDD which can eventually fall on the floor and get damaged

Other Thoughts: Lost one star because cable length

5 out of 5 eggsWorth The Cost!

Pros: It does its job flawlessly.

Compatible with every hard-drive (and power source...haha) under the sun. I am using it for old low capacity HDD's, so I can't verify whether it works with 2TB+ HDD's or not. That being said, switching between an IDE and sata cable is literally as easy as plugging/unplugging the sata extension and switching a switch.

Cons: The installation disc is confusing as it comes with 15 folders of different programs, some of which are completely irrelevant to the product. I'd recommend just ignoring it and letting windows automatically download the drivers from the cable.

Other Thoughts: I called StarTech's tech support after having issues getting my IDE drives to read properly, and they were very friendly and helpful. After some trouble shooting, they helped me narrow the cause down to faulty hard-drives and not an issue with the cable or operating system.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect

Pros: This adapter makes perfect sense when dealing with all kinds of hard drives (except SATA Laptop drives). Added power supply with different AC cables makes it an around the world usable item.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I bought this adpter to save user data from a Dell laptop with a PATA drive which was my first PATA drive I have seen in a Laptop. It worked perfectly and I was able to save the customers files after his Laptop got fried......

5 out of 5 eggsBest bang for the buck

Pros: I just got this today and it's already been a major return on my investment. The cables are thick and obviously designed to be tossed in a technicians tool bag. So that's a big plus for me when i need to take "essentials" bag to fix family/job site computers. The fact that it came with an assortment of international plugs was also a major plus if i should ever need to travel abroad. As for the data transfer speeds, i was consistently hitting 8MB/S or higher. So I was more than satisfied there.

The short of this review is: It's probably the best bang for your buck. quick, sturdy and efficient.

Cons: Only con that i could think of is the USB connection to the laptop i was using seemed a little flaky. A slight bump would reset it. That being said, i'm willing to bet it's the actual USB port on the laptop instead of the cable itself.
