5 out of 5 eggsGood way to add another display

Pros: - Price compared to others
- Speed/resolution of supported monitors

Cons: - Only DVI and USB2.0 (not really cons though at this price)

Other Thoughts: I bought an extra monitor for work but my laptop only supported 2 external displays. This allows me to drive a 3rd 1080p display. I mainly do text based programming so this device isn't being used for graphically intensive work. This adapter was the best priced for the good reviews it had. Other ones with 4-5 star reviews were going for $60+. It was hard for me to justify that, so I figured I'd try this one (especially since it was on sale). Glad I did.

There is no lag that I can tell. However I did do some testing to see how it operated with something like HD video. I pulled up youtube and tried to watch some 1080p60fps videos. It would stumble through this if I had it set to full screen. It wasn't terrible, maybe dropping down to 20-30fps, but it was noticeable. You can still watch videos clear and at a decent framerate if you don't watch them full screen.

None of this bothers me as I'm using it for work. It's certainly not a con, but something that people should be aware of. Overall I'm thoroughly satisfied.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks so far

Pros: So I use these for my laptop, which only has one vga port and no other visual ports. It seems to run on my pc fine and does everything it said it would do. getting ready to order a second one so i can have three monitor display. I am worried that my cpu might not be able to handle all three monitors plus recording music with out there being some horrid lag, but I guess that depends on how many tracks that I do. Over all it works flawlessly so far.

Cons: - It took some working around to install it, but in the end it worked out fine.
- could hinder some cpu speeds (NOTE THAT I SAID COULD)

Other Thoughts: If you have no other way of getting extended displays this is the best way to go. It works and it seems to not slow down the pc at all.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product that just works

Pros: I didn't want to drop money on an additional graphics card in order to get myself up to 4 monitors, so I looked into getting one of these. So I bought two of these and have been using them for several months now without any issues. I have owned Diamond products in the past, and have always enjoyed the value they put into their products. If you have a tight budget, consider Diamond your 'brand name'.

Cons: Just make sure you have the latest software update, when I first plugged them in, I did have weird static effects going on, but after I updated the software, I haven't had it since.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised*

Pros: Very easily clone or extend a display if you have no standard option. Works as advertised; 1920x1080 on an external display and 1360 x 768 on a smaller monitor just fine.

Cons: Disables Nvidia control panel.
HDMI port to a 6 year old laptop was physically damaged. My solution was this adapter. However, Nvidia doesn't quite know how to deal with it. You are left with only the Windows screen resolution dialog for screen adjustments. With no overscan adjustment ability, the laptop lost its purpose as a TV display junker. No sure this component's interaction with other OS's.

4 out of 5 eggsAs solid as Mavericks will allow

Pros: Simple, bus powered, DVI-I interface with both digital and analog (VGA) signals. Comes with a well made Mini USB cable. Took the cover off and the DisplayLink chip has a heat sink (my last one didn't). Handles non- video/non-high motion content well. I use it as a third screen on my hackintosh: mostly running Mail and uTorrent fullscreen, plus it's great as part of a three screen Premier Pro setup, holding folders, bins, and other bits, while my middle screen holds the two viewers and timeline, and the third screen as a full screen viewer. No noticeable lag, but if there is too much going on (video or gaming) on this adapter, it will kill your CPU.

Cons: Not an issue limited to this product, but DisplayLink and Mac OS X Mavericks (currently running 10.9.2) do not get along perfectly. Some minor glitching in Mission Control, as well as some apps (looking at you, Calendar), plus often window arrangements and full screen apps don't stay assigned to this screen across reboots. The adapter is usable and stable throughout the day, but the driver is still rough around the edges. This isn't an issue limited to Diamond's adapter- all DisplayLink adapters have the same issue with Mavericks. Not sure if it's Apple's or DisplayLink's fault. Probably a bit of both.

Other Thoughts: Throw the driver disc away and download the latest from DisplayLink's site. I use this with a old but still going strong Hackintosh three monitor setup. I can't wait to go to four!

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I asked for

Pros: Exactly what I asked for at an extremely competitive price.

Cons: Some other devices are USB 3.0 compliant. This one is 2.0, which makes it a somewhat dated component, but for the price point, what do you really expect?

Other Thoughts: My main concern with this device is lifetime. It's only got a 1 year warranty, and I've personally witnessed similar devices manufactured by HP that die within a few weeks of use from too much heat, so I'm paying close attention to how long this device lasts, and how hot it gets. It hasn't died yet, though, so I'm optimistic!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works great. I can watch full 1080p content. If there is any lag, I sure can't tell.

You can run two monitors in duplicate or extended modes.

Cons: You can only connect a DVI cable. Does not come with HDMI adapter, you have to buy it separately if you want to connect an HDMI cable. Search newegg for "DVI male to HDMI female adapter", they're like 2-5 bucks. Then, you can connect an HDMI cable to this unit.
Also, the unit does not forward sound to your monitor, only video.

Other Thoughts: This is not a video card and does not function like one. All this does is emulate a second monitor by taking the compressed video that the software sends over USB and decompresses it. So if your PC/Laptop is slow to begin with, this will not help. The software uses CPU and your primary graphics card for the image compression workload, so the better your PC, the better this will work.
