Pros: Neat idea, small, inexpensive

Cons: Could not get it to work with Windows 8.1 Home. Have a customer's third party software which requires specific fax modem. The fax modem only has rs-232 port. Fax Modem works fine with system with RS-232 serial port.

Pros: had modem certified by third party software and wanted to use on new computer which did not have serial ports. For $5 thought I would give it a try. Works well.

Pros: The cables were cheap, they worked, and had free shipping when I ordered them.

We are using our cables on Linux (RHEL) workstations to communicate with hardware setups via minicom.

Cons: None for our setup

Cons: does not work on XP or vista I have tried uploading drivers and chip check software and it never detects the device or the chip version I do not recommend

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Can't get it to work on Windows 7 (x64), Windows 8 (x64) nor FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE-p3.

Even after installing the latest drivers in Windows from Prolific's website, the device shows up in Device Manager with a yellow exclamation mark sign and in the details of the device it gives this error:

{Not Enough Quota}
Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation.

PuTTY claims it can't open the COM port associated with the device.

Other Thoughts: I guess you get what you pay for.
