1 out of 5 eggsNot intended for 5V only devices

Pros: Works fine with 12V only or 5V+12V devices (3.5" HDD).

Cons: Doesn't work with 5V only devices (2.5" HDD). Unfortunately that was the purpose of my purchase. I'm disappointed and I will probably return it and try to find a good AC to 5V adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome tastic

Pros: Works great!, have a 92 MM fan with a heat probe running on this 24/7; the fan is attached to my entertainment center. Kicks on in high gear every time the onkyo is turned on.

Cons: Nary a problem to report.

Other Thoughts: wish it had more than one 4pin connector, or perhaps a secondary 3pin for fans.

5 out of 5 eggsCool Trick 12v wall jack to molex

Pros: Among other things, this gizmo allows you to avoid too many wires in your computer case, or too many amps on your PSU. By taking the ac wall current and converting it to 12v juice to a molex adapter you can use it to power many items that otherwise would require PSU or case involvement. In my situation I used this to power external cooling fans for a liquid-cooled i7 computer.

Fans can also be 'daisy-chained' one to another so you can power a series of fans from this one power source up to the limits of the amps supported (see below). I have a number of high-amperage devices drawing on my already hefty PSU, and I have the radiator external to the case with 6 feet of hose so experiments and demonstrations can be made at a distance fromthe case. This gives 2 good reasons to use this handy device 1) Amperage draw on the PSU is reduced, 2) Long, unsightly and hazardous wires are avoided.

Cons: 1)Amp limit
This is a great gizmo, but this version is limited to only 2 amps of output so you have to be careful what you want to hook up to it. In my case, this was just right as I used 4 Scythe .5 amp high cfm fans to blow a cyclone through a GTX 480 rad. If you wanted to hook up, say a hefty pump, this probably woudn't push enough amperage, likewise some other external perpherals might require more amps than it pushes, so be aware of the 12v amps you need.

2)Manual turn on/off
Unless you rig this to a switch and hook it up to your computer or other device, you have to remember to turn it on and off manually (basically pluggin in or unplugging) which can be a problem if it runs your computer cooler and you are forgetful!

3) Oh yeah, no switch!
Once this is plugged in, its on. It has no switch unless you rig one onto it. Many people who use it for fans use fan controllers, but if, like me, you don't, you won't have a switch.

Other Thoughts: I have been running this gizmo since middle of last year nearly every day and it works like a trooper. Adapter fitting and reliability are excellent, and it is really handy. I recommend it to anyone doing external rad set-ups where the rad and fans may not be convenient to the PSU, case, or long wires are simply not wanted.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect DVR cooling project

Pros: Works perfectly for a 'do it yourself' DVR cooling project!
An extra 120mm case fan does the trick~

** Running a Scythe S-Flex fan w/ a Zalman Fan Mate to control RPMs. ( this fan will last years...)

Cons: nope

Other Thoughts: Fun and functional cooling project using an extra 120mm case fan,
...thanks newegg for stocking these.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to

Pros: Works. Has a light to let you know it has power. The molex output on the end is high quality and made of rubber so there are no flimsy pins like the cheap plastic ones inside your PC.

Cons: Power cord that plugs into the bottom is a little flimsy feeling with no real way to feel how snug it is.

5 out of 5 eggsNice buy!!

Pros: Fair priced. Quality build unit. Sturdy connector fits snugly and long enough cable to reach your power strip or outlet.

I use this to power my VANTEC TD9238H 92mm Case Fan for cooling my overheated HD PVR (no fault of the unit.. i do run it quite in excess, though now modded and in control!!) but in all a good addition for powering your external/internal fans for extra cooling and circulation.

Cons: None
