1 out of 5 eggsBurned up two hard drives

Pros: -0-

Cons: The power supply is out of specification and pushes too-high voltage. It overheated and destroyed two notebook hard drives, and began overheating a much larger, heavier drive but I noticed and disconnected in time. Obviously poor quality control.

Other Thoughts: Maybe it would work well if it wasn't defective. I can't know.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: I plugged it up to an IDE CD-ROM drive, which I then used as an external drive for a small netbook. It worked as expected. And it is not that expensive.

Cons: There was one instance where, in the course of a read operation, the drive disappeared from Windows. However, this is an older, generic CD-ROM drive and the disk was scratched like crazy.

Other Thoughts: These kits are good in a pinch for recovering data from the hard drive of a dead PC and other misc. uses as described above. Any good PC tech should always have one of these on-hand. You never know when it will save your bacon.
