4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for your Laptop

Pros: Great price, easy set up, no hassle

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This is perfect for my work laptop, if you have a docking station. It's great to have 3 monitors now and actually thinking about purchasing another one to get 4 up and going.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Had it for a while now with no problems. I have almost forgot it was in the system. Does what it is supposed to do. I loaded the drivers and plugged it in and it worked...quick and easy. I run 32-bit Windows XP.

Cons: It was not free

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work as expected

Pros: Easiest way of add another screen to any PC/Mac, but if you have a powered USB hub, the experience could be better when other USB devices are present. Not a workforce. Only works as expected if the contents are near of to be static.

Cons: We bought several. Got DOAs. Seems to be easy to install, but in our case, on Win7 x64 plenty of resources, we had a lot of problems: not recognized, black screen, scrambled information, can't do drag and drops of windows between screens, several reboots, forced refresh, lags, etc. Only works as expected if the contents are static texts.

Other Thoughts: Seems to be designed for a discrete performance: static contents preferably. If is going to be used for video or movements/transitions between screens, better look for other options.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Loaded the driver and plugged it in and every thing worked first try. Took me longer to open the box and unpack everything then to get it running. Much faster than the last one I used.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Know the limits of what this can do. Text and non graphics stuff this thing rocks. Try to do AutoCAD on it or play games, get a real video card.

5 out of 5 eggsFar better than I expected

Pros: Simple plug and play install in Windows 7 64.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I have an old 15" 720p TV that I wanted to use as a 3rd monitor, and decided to hook this device to the HDMI port instead of buying a second video card. I had modest expectations, and was planning to use it for my email client, audio player, etc. When I hooked it up, I tested out the video capability and was very pleasantly surprised. It ran my Slingbox just fine. It played 720p video fine as well. Since I didn't try it at 1080p, I'm not sure how that would work. I also saw some hiccups streaming 720p video from Hulu. Still, for the price I paid, I'm very happy with the product.

4 out of 5 eggs2 installed well, 1 won't work

Pros: Easy to use out of the box. the first 2 I owned were arkview the last I bought under the same item number a few weeks later was a different color and now seems to be owned by sabrent?

Cons: 2 installed with ease but my 3rd one would not install at all. Going back and forth with the tech company may be easier to just return to Newegg and choose a different brand. All machines were Win7 32 bit.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Runs my Dell 1908FP flawlessly on Win7 64-bit Home Premium. No stutter or lag. Just works.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: My uses for the monitor this thing runs are pretty static. Not running video or anything with lots of movement. This is for my work computer and is used to display Word/Excel/Outlook and light web browsing.

Youtube and flash in Firefox doesn't seem to be a problem for the device, however I mainly reserve these tasks for my 24" ASUS or other 1908FP, both of which are on a GTS450. Not sure this is meant for the flight sim junkies, but then again those guys can usually pop for extra video cards...

It is important to point out that the driver it shipped with did have some stutter issues. It would blur the image during fast motion and lag. There have been two updates for this device through Windows Update since I've owned it, and it has fixed these issues. No more stutter/lag/blurring. Overall very pleased with the product and works for my uses.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: This is a great product but just wasn't what I was looking for. It's really easy to install and works great for a second monitor and even streams video well when the "optimize for video" setting is activated.

Cons: Does not support HD streaming video to an HDTV, which was what I was looking for.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I expect

Pros: It works well considering the limitations of USB. I had no trouble with installation.

If I unplug it and plug it back in, it automatically starts working again with only a little flickering and stuttering. The image is lossless compressed in default mode so the image is exactly as it looks on a normal connection (but there may be dropped frames; see the other section for more details).

Cons: This adapter supports a max resolution of 1280x1024 or 1400x1050 and anything lower. This is clearly marked on the products retail packaging, but only visible here on the specs page. I had to return this model after using it for a week. There are better models from this company for higher resolutions (that cost hardly any more). I guess the better versions need faster chips to do the lossless compression of larger images fast enough.

Other Thoughts: There are some UNAVOIDABLE issues due to the USB connection.

The image always looks perfect, but with too much movement combined with busy images, it starts skipping frames creating a kind of lag. Browsing the web with lots of graphics can result in laggy scrolling that can be a nuisance. Games are a bad idea. Video is already low framerate (30 or les) so they look surprisingly fine even if it drops a frame or two. I think there is a movie mode too which uses lossy compression if you need to kill the lag, but it would make text difficult to read. I use this for an extra screen in audio production which mostly works fine since nothing is moving too quickly, but there are other issues.

If you're using other USB devices at the same time (including a second one of these I'm sure) the collective USB performance is bad. I have to unplug it to use a MIDI instrument or make a fast backup to my USB drives (not a big a deal). USB mouse, keyboard and printer all work fine.
