The specification for USB only allows a maximum length of a USB cable is 5 meters (16 feet). As a result, you cannot extend the distance of your USB device more than 16 feet without using a USB "active" extension cable (also known as a USB repeater cable). This cable contains active electronics which boost the USB signal for maximum reliability and performance over extended distances. Connect up to five of these cables together for nearly 80 feet of cable.

1 out of 5 eggsHigh fail rate

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Very high fail rate, ordered two, one was DOA, the second lasted for 6 months but slowly started to fail. Very poor cable, wouldn't waste your time.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it should

Pros: Works and cable is long enough

Cons: If you use another USB cable in conjunction with this cable, the connection is very loose. I had to tape them together to keep them from coming apart.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA analysis

Pros: Nice cable

Cons: DOA, device was wired wrong internally, wires were attached backwards from cable to PC board. I fixed it but it is still dead. Probably damaged by heat generated by backwards connection. Clearly not tested before packaging.

Other Thoughts: I will turn it into a dumb extension cable, using the parts that work. It just isn't worth RMAing such inexpensive items. I really wish these things were tested because even the simplest test would have rejected this one.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Excellent concept. I have used many of these one-port hubs and find them very useful. Very low cost.

Cons: This unit arrived DOA and the cost of RMA is too high to make it worth returning. It was mis-wired at the factory. I will revisit this review if it works after correcting the wiring error.

Other Thoughts: I decided to use this unit as a test subject to see if I could figure out why so many of these kind of products are DOA. It is such a simple device, one IC, one crystal, and one capacitor. There should be little room for failure as long as the IC has been tested prior to use. Upon removing the soft plastic cover i discovered what I thought might be the cause of this units failure (when plugged in it fails to be recognized and gets hot). The board is labeled with four terminal from the wire. GND, D+, D-, and +5V. The black wire (and cable shield) was connected to the +5V port and the red wire was connected to the GND port. I cut the wires and plugged the cable alone into a USB port and checked and sure enough, the black wire is 0V and the red wire is +5V. The device was simply built wrong. The data wires are probably wrong too but it should work even if they are as long as the power is correct. I will correct the hookup and report later as to whether the device is functional.

1 out of 5 eggsWell JUNK me!

Pros: It came

Cons: It sucks

Other Thoughts: It is DOA, though it powers my midi controller it does not send any commands at all. Had I read all the reviews here I would not have took the chance on this. I did and paid the price for noting other that a useless hunk of junk. I see this does work for some but the go rate is very poor. I would look elsewhere if I were you. I would call this negative 5 eggs... I have requested a full refund as I have never had anything this bad from the egg before. This is one rotten egg of a product for sure, save you bucks!
