VisionTek Active DisplayPort™ to Dual Link DVI converter is a new generation DisplayPort™ to Active Dual Link DVI converter that receives both video and audio streams from an upstream DisplayPort Source link and converts to a Dual Link DVI output. The DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link adapter lets you connect your DisplayPort video source (Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, etc.) to any DVI-D display, eliminating the expense of having to upgrade to a DisplayPort-capable monitor. The DisplayPort adapter offers an active conversion and easy connectivity directly without any external power input and is able to handle full dual-link resolutions (up to 2560x1600). Use it to mirror your display to another monitor, or extend your desktop to increase your workspace.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work as advertised

Pros: Works at 100 Hz

Cons: Does not work at a 120 Hz. Yes I am using a dual link cable that has been tested before. The thing says its a Visiontek and its not. The one from Vision tech that I just bought works. as advertised.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute garbage. Not worth the cost to ship, let alone the $30 to buy. Newegg, take this item down.

Pros: The package arrived without being tampered with.

Cons: Where to begin? The craftsmanship is garbage on these. I ordered 3 of them together, in the hopes that at least one of them would work with my 30" cinema hd display. Now before you dismiss this as "not a DL DVI cable", not one of them worked at full resolution (2560x1600), but none worked at all at 1280x800 either, which is SL bandwidth. All I would get with all 3 is a blank backlight-only display, with rainbow colors from time to time cascading down the screen. I tried all 3 in all 3 DP ports on my brand new Fury X. I also tried them with my cheap Acer 1600x900 DVI display, which displayed but was only receiving 8 bit color and was full of artifacts, even at 768p. I spent $90 and threw it away for nothing. Newegg has never misled me like this in the past. Why they sell such a scam of a product is beyond me. If you're a sensible person who values your money, don't throw it away on garbage like this.

Other Thoughts: I decided that I would sacrifice $30 on one of these to open it up to determine if it was fixable. I'm an electronics technician, so I figured I would stand a good chance. I opened one of the units, and the craftsmanship in regards to electronics is absolutely horrible. The solder joints are cracked and matte, and half of the components are shifted out of place and are barely on the PCB solder pads. They couldn't have paid more than $1.50 to manufacture these, so it's astounding that they're selling with a 20,000% markup, especially when they don't work. Generally I'm understanding that some people leave bad reviews for no good reason, so I focus on the good ones when I purchase a product. I've never written a bad review before, so the fact that I feel that I should in this scenario speaks volumes.

Newegg,
If you respond to this in an effort to resolve my issues, I would appreciate your efforts. The goal is to find something to drive my 30" Cinema HD display at 2560x1600 on Dual-Link DVI from my Fury X's Displayport. If you can assist me with this, whether it's with a better active adapter, a dual-link dvi to 2 SL dvi splitter, or any other solution, I would greatly appreciate it. Even better, if you can accept a return on 2 out of the 3 adapters(I disassembled one of them, and couldn't be bothered to reassemble it), that would help me greatly.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, Sorta

Pros: -Does provide dual link output
-No additional power needed
-Worked up to 2560x1440 (Highest tested)

Cons: -Works great, when it works. Only worked on one out of three 27in monitors I tested it on, at 2560x1440. Other two had many many lines and artifacts. But I only needed it to work with one, All three monitors only support dual link dvi, no HDMI or displayport option available for them (Hence the cheap price)
-When computer would wake from sleep mode or hibernation, the working monitor had lines running though it. Had to restart computer to correct this.
-Switching to full screen applications took a very long time before the monitor's resolution refreshed, a several seconds behind the other monitors.

Other Thoughts: The unit itself does work, and as advertise, just not as effectively as hoped. Probably would be fine for 1080p (Didn't test)

4 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with 30" Apple Display

Pros: -works as advertised up to 2560x1600 on my hp z30 display (highest res display I had available to test it on)
-says "Dual Link" on it, which is actually nice to help me keep track of it separate from the dozen other DP -> DVI adapters I have

Cons: -Didn't work with an Apple 30" cinema display (the very thing I bought it for). While it did seem to recognize the display as capable of up to 2560x1600 (native) resolution (unlike all my other adapters which only show it as having a max native res of 1280x800), if I specified a resolution above 1280x800, even with this adapter, the display just went dark and wouldn't show anything :-(. And yes, I do know it requires a dual-link cable. Note that the Apple 30" cinema display has the cable built-in. And yes the Display works fine with an nVidia card that has a dual-link dvi ouput in a newer Dell workstation desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Wanted to connect 2nd monitor from DVI to GTX 980 DisplayPort with a native resolution is 2560x1600. Used Dual Link DVI cable. Plugged in and worked right away. Running perfectly.

Cons: No cons at all. Others have posted it not working with higher res. It is my impression that you need to ensure that you use a dual link cable with this adapter in order to get 2560x1600.

Other Thoughts: It would be ridiculous to spend the money on the more expensive solutions.

2 out of 5 eggsProfessional computer tech review

Pros: sadly i cant say there are any.

Cons: this item says it will do display port to DVD-D duel link. i know i have the right cables as they say duel link on them and i have run DVD-D 120Mhz nvidia 3d on these monitors with another crad. these will not work with a nvidia 980. they seem almost close enough to support 120Mhz but they don't.

Other Thoughts: you might be able to get them to work if you are lucky as some have. but i would steer clear if i where you.

2 out of 5 eggsWould be great if it worked with my Dell 3007WFP

Pros: Cheap, advertised to support "latest generation" computers and 2560x1600 @ 24-bit, unpowered (doesn't need separate USB power)

Cons: Doesn't do the one thing I need it to do - work with my Dell Precision M4800 & E-port Plus II docking station and Dell 3007WFP 30" monitor (2560 x 1600).
My years-old $110 ACCEL powered Displayport 1.2 to DVI-D adapter works perfectly well, but I was hoping to return it and 1) get some money back, and 2) reclaim a USB port.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for dual link

Pros: Works as a single link adapter

Cons: Doesn't work as a dual link adapter, which is what I bought it for. It just didn't work at all with my 2560x1600 monitor. I bought a Dell adapter instead from a website starting with A and that works fine with my 2560x1600 monitor.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't really work 2560X1600

Pros: Not powered

Cons: Doesn't drive 2560X1600 with out a ton of screen artifacts, intermittent drop outs, etc. I have two of these from a Quadro 2000 card and both work about the same (which is basically not at all).

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend buying this if you are planning on 2560X1600 resolution.
