VisionTek Active DisplayPort™ to Dual Link DVI converter is a new generation DisplayPort™ to Active Dual Link DVI converter that receives both video and audio streams from an upstream DisplayPort Source link and converts to a Dual Link DVI output. The DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link adapter lets you connect your DisplayPort video source (Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, etc.) to any DVI-D display, eliminating the expense of having to upgrade to a DisplayPort-capable monitor. The DisplayPort adapter offers an active conversion and easy connectivity directly without any external power input and is able to handle full dual-link resolutions (up to 2560x1600). Use it to mirror your display to another monitor, or extend your desktop to increase your workspace.

5 out of 5 eggsLearn to use the correct cable

Pros: This simply works!

Cons: People use your brains.

Other Thoughts: The reviewer's that said they couldn't get it to work needs to use a Dual Link DVI cable. I have used this adapter on 5 different computers/laptops at work and I am using the Apple 30 inch Cinema Display and it worked every time on Dells to HP's. People use the right cable before you get on here writing reviews telling people how bad this adapter is when it's your fault.

1 out of 5 eggswish it worked

Pros: Can actually output 2560x1600

Cons: Cannot output 2560x1600 without screen artifacts

Other Thoughts: HP LP3065 monitor. I was surprised it actually kind of worked as there aren't many cheap solutions for converting 2560x1600 resolutions from DL-DVI to DP, but with the horizontal lines and other screen artifacts, this adapter is pretty much useless.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works.

Pros: Works as advertised, connecting my on-board displayport output to my dvi monitor at 2560x14440.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: After reading the hit-and-miss results reflected in other reviews for this product, I was a bit hesitant to order this adapter cable. But I took the plunge, and it's worked for me.

For those considering this adapter, I am using it with this setup:

- --------- 27" IPS-ZERO-G Slim Monitor WQHD 2560x1440

- Dual link DVI cable (included with the above)

- ASUS Z97-A LGA ATX Intel Motherboard

- Intel Core i5-4690K

- Windows 8.1 Pro

I'm getting perfect 2560x1440 in Windows. Video is also available at boot, but I haven't tried to figure out at what resolution.

Best of luck to anyone needing this adapter.

2 out of 5 eggsAlmost worked

Pros: Almost Worked. Got farther than any other device I've tried thus far to connect to my dual 30" 2560 x 1600 monitors. Well, other than an old Dual DVI card.

Cons: After connecting the cables the computer gave the option to set the 2560 x 1600 resolution but when I select it all I got was screen full of various colored vertical lines.

Yes, the cables I used to connect the monitors are Dual-Link and previously worked to hook these monitors up to an older dual dvi video card.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect! 2560x1600

Pros: Works with USB 3.0 displayport adapters to achieve 2560x1600 resolution.

Cons: No Cons

Other Thoughts: It works EXACTLY as expected. I had NO ISSUES. I'm using it with GWC AN3820 USB 3.0 to DisplayPort Adapter to connect to my 30" 2560x1600 generic LG display having only a dual link DVI cable.

I was unsure whether this or the display port adapter would work since it seems like going beyond 1920x1080 is a racket and everyone becomes an expert with their well branded displays and the thunderjam technology.

Rest assured, this will work if you know how to read specs and try to keep it generic.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed with HP LP3065 2560x1600 dual link DVI display

Pros: Inexpensive, no external power needed

Cons: Could only do single link 1280x800 on my dual link 2560x1600 HP LP3065 display.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because a review at another site indicated that this dongle worked most of the time with a Hewlett-Packard LP3065 display, which is what I have. That HP display accepts only two video modes: 1280x800 single link DVI and 2560x1600 dual link. This adapter was only able to drive my display at 1280x800, although it did pass through the EDID video mode description for both 1280x800 and 2560x1600. When I tell my computer to set the video mode to 2560x1600 on the DisplayPort interface, my LP3065 just displays a black screen and turns the LED at the bottom of the screen yellow, which I think indicates that it thinks it is receiving an invalid video mode.

In case the video signal generation might be an issue, I'll mention that I connected this adapter to the DisplayPort output of my MSI b85m-g43 motherboard with an Intel i7-4770k processor. The computer was running
There is another review here from a person who claims to have gotten this dongle to drive an LP3065 with tolerably sporadic problems. So, what's different about my configuration?

Firstly, I'm embarassed to say I I did not buy from NewEgg. Perhaps NewEgg is selling a newer or at least better revision of the same product. I am, however, confident that this is not a case of the wrong part being shipped, because the dongle has "VisionTek, "Dual Link" and "Active" painted on one side of it, and has a small bar code label on the back marked "VT 900639".

Secondly, perhaps there is problem arising from the output driving the dongle. I am using the DIsplayPort on my MSI b85m-g43 motherboard, running Linux and X-windows with an open source Intel video driver ("xf86-video-intel") on a Linux-3.13.0 kernel. This computer was also driving a 39" Seiki from its HDMI port at 3840x2160 at 30 frames per second, although I had the same problems when the second monitor was only being driven at 1920x1080x30fps from before the dongle was plugged in through my testing the dongle at 1280x800 and 2560x1600. So, I don't think I was somehow out of video bandwidth.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but Fussy

Pros: Supports 2560x1600 monitors, inexpensive, portable, NO USB POWER REQUIRED! Also seems more reliable than USB-powered adapters.

I use it between a Lenovo dock (not USB 3.0 port extender) and an older HP LP3065 that is Dual-Link DVI only.

Note - you MUST have dual-link DVI cable to get this to work. No way to visually distinguish single-link & dual-link DVI cables. People get frustrated becamse some single-link DVI cables have all the dual-link DVI-D pins, but don't support dual-link DVI.

I grab a Sharpie and write "D-L" on the connectors with every Dual-Link DVI cable I buy. Saves a lot of heartbreak.

Cons: Had to futz around to make it work. Not sure which step made the difference:

- Used adequate power supply for the dock & laptop. Don't know if 90 watts is sufficient.

- Power-cycled the monitor - with the physical on-off switch - once the monitor was connected to the dock via this product with laptop running in the dock.

- Doesn't seem to work via laptop's Mini DisplayPort and Mini DP to DP adapter when laptop is undocked.
