Question 1

This listing says up to 2560x1600 resolution. But none of the reviewers say that they have achieved that resolution, and the VisionTek web page for the product says very clearly that the device supports up to 2560x1440. What's the deal?

To achieve that kind of resolution you got to make sure you have the equipment to achieve it. Examples like widescreen monitors, multi monitor setups can achieve this. On top of that the graphics card needs to also be able to support this too as going to higher resolutions causes the graphics card to work near twice as hard to push those pixels. My three monitor setup pretty much pumps out this resolution times three.

Question 2

The specs mention what resolution I will/should be able to handle but it doesn't mention refresh rate.  Will this support 144hz refresh at 1920x1080?

I bought 4 for a multi monitor setup.  I could not get any one of them to work in an active mode which is what I required and what was advertised.  I did not return them, not worth the hassle.  I ordered replacement on a national auction site and they worked fine.  Hope this was helpful.

will this work from a laptop's displayport to a external 120 hz monitor? I have the new alienware 17 but shouldn't matter cuz its mini displayport out

Did this end up working for you at 120hz? I'm in a similar boat but need 144hz at 1920x1080 (triple monitor setup).
