- Pros: Stable, Fast and best of all booted on first try. Very clear documents and board layout, cables were included and love the locking system for SATA devices.
- Cons: This is all nit picking but since I can I will. IDE controller placement right angle to board. USB,1394A,SATA all grouped together to close when cabling is attached what a octopus very hard to attach any more cable to SATA if needed. Also if you change hard drives on the Marvel SATA bus the bios changes that new drive as the boot drive. After marathon install of XP-Pro on reboot nothing, checked bios and boot device order had changed.
- Other Thoughts: I purchased this board reading only the first few reviews, which were excellent, then read the rest and thought I made the worst purchase of my life, bios problems, raid problems, strange screen problem. NOT the case, upgrade bios first 2663, download latest Raid drivers Intel and Marvel and everything will work smoothly. Loven every minute of it! Conroe E6600 2.4, 2-150g 10K raptor Raid0(Intel),2-300g Maxtor SATAI Raid0(Marvel),1-500g WD 500g SATAII, 2gig patriot, no overclocking(yet).
Ready for Quad-Core
- Pros: I love this board. Everything is lightning fast and stable. Set-up both Raids without a problem. I do video editing professionally and love Intel stability. Last Intel build went 3 years without a hitch. Runs cool - 30 idle as I write this. Onboard audio is great - you don't need an audio card.
- Cons: Product booklet that ships with board needs more detail on bios choices. You, obviously, must get the latest Marvel drivers for the second Raid to work properly.
- Other Thoughts: 1. Intall Raids before installing Windows - get newest Marvel drivers from Intel site.
2. I have DVD drives on the IDE connection. Set IDE to 'legacy' (not 'native') in bios - or they will freeze computer - that seems to be my fix anyway. 3. Bios updates are frequent - so create a link to Intel's support page - they are serious about making this board a winner. 4. Running e6600 now and will upgrade to quad-core when prices drop - a future-proof board! 5. The on-board 4pin molex connection is not 'optional' - just plug it in and be safe if you have a modern video card - it needs the power. 6. Get it, you will like its quickness! Newegg is a great company - these customer reviews probably do more for product improvements than any other feed-back to manufacturers.

Great old school mobo
- Pros: Most people on here have already hit the highs well. I thought I'd add the IDT sound drivers with Sonic Focus enabled are incredible. I've used mobos from 975 to X58 and none of them match the clean bass output of the BX2 with said drivers on Vista x64 SP1. I've even tried high end sound cards and like other motherboards they clip and drop sound when you use high levels of bass. Honestly, I can turn the Sonic Focus bass all the way up and it will not drop sound or clip. I can't tolerate it that high and it's incredible to hear the kind of thud it's capable of briefly. It sounds wonderful with high quality headphones. I'm running it on Vista x64 SP1 with the sound set to 24Bit 48k Hz.
It's a reliable and stable motherboard with one click .exe BIOS updates, even under a 64 bit OS. No messing with floppy drives, DVDs/CDs or any other nonsense. Download, point, click and let it go. I love that.
- Cons: i975x is a dated chipset and only good for limited overclocking with quad core. If you're content with a Q6600 G-0 @ 3.0-3.5GHz then consider it. I was able to run an E6600 in it @ up to 3.9GHz though.
- Other Thoughts: I've also tried this motherboard with SLi "sandwich" cards from nVidia and with Crossfire cards from ATi. It worked fine with both. With ATi you could run three cards in Crossfire, or something like an HD 4870 X2 in one slot and another X2 or an HD 4870 in slot two. With nVidia you're restricted to sandwich cards like their 9800 GX2, for example.
To Intel, put IDT drivers with Sonic Focus on your X58 board. I might try it.
followup review
- Pros: Good overall ,not the best of Intel boards, although high priced. Many Bios updates available.Solid built.
- Cons: The on board sound has many problems, static, clicks etc.
Intel has a fix,Sigmatel driver deleted, updated to IDT -- not very much better. I purchased a PCI sound card ( HT Omega Striker $85.00)from Newegg, Now the sound is excellent(read my review on Newegg OT Omega Striker sound card).
- Other Thoughts: After using this INTEL board over a year, and two of my other systems with Intel and Asus motherboards, I think Intel choose the wrong company (Sigmatel) for the sound driver and software.By the way, Sigmatel is out of business.Intel recommends IDT fix. Poor results.
Great Board
- Pros: MB setup was easy once I figured out that the Mavell RAID was worthless. Board works great. Am very happy with it.
- Cons: There's no real explaination on why user would choose Intel RAID over Marvell RAID. Google Marvell RAID and this board and you'll find many complaints. I disabled secondary (Marvell) controller in BIOS and all is fine.
- Other Thoughts: A bit pricey but I wanted my first build to go smoothly (and it did). I needed parallel and serial ports for legacy applications.
