1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Purchased an Intel Server board to 'keep things' easy.

Cons: The first board was defective ... it happens and had the second board delivered in timely fashion. My reason for purchasing this board with the Intel Matrix RAID. What a nightmare. I've wasted HOURS attempting to work through the BSOD. I've read post after post on what to do without sucess. Forget Intel Support! Why can't Intel make a Board with the proper BIOS with THEIR RAID solution that just works? Is this asking too much? If this were some off manufacturer I could understand ... but Intel? I surely won't be purchasing this board again ... appears a RAID solution is best achived with a 3rd party add on solutions. That is a shame!

4 out of 5 eggsSolid, solid entry to xeon

Pros: Solid entry mb with LGA 775, got this one running xeon X3370 with kingston KVR800D2E5/2GI and 4ea 1tb retail seagates on raid10--fast and solid intel.

Cons: You may need to have lower cpu on hand for bios upgrade, MUST upgrade bios for raid10 to be recognized--as out of box it gets blue screens.

Bios post and navigation is slow but who cares!

Other Thoughts: Update bios via EFI and internal mb usb port for flash drive, it ALL works of you read instructions, just set the bios to boot EFI and dump the new bios files on the flash drive.

4 out of 5 eggsOpenSolaris 2008.11 and ZFS

Pros: * 6 sata ports
* Intel LAN
* Intel board

Cons: * Price
* Onboard graphics doesn't work in OpenSolaris 2008.11
* Somewhat slow POST. Maybe ~20 sec. Not a huge deal in my opinion.

Other Thoughts: Used this board to make home fileserver with OpenSolaris 2008.11 and ZFS. I love the Intel LAN and the 6 sata ports because it's a fileserver.

The onboard graphics did not work in OpenSolaris 2008.11. I don't know if it will be supported in 2009.06. Intel's OS doc says you can apply a fix to the graphics config to make it work, but I couldn't get it to work. Don't even try installing OSOL without a dedicated graphics card. I bought an MSI N8400GS-TD256 GeForce 8400, which works well. OSOL sucks, ZFS rocks.

1 out of 5 eggsNot the Best out there for x64 builds

Pros: Board has nice features Multiple PCIex
6 SATA connectors
PCIEX16 video support

Cons: This will be the last S3200shv board I buy, have used 4 of these in the last 6 months for my various customer server installs. All four of these boards have had issue's right out of the box. Compatibility issues with optical drives when used in conjunction with raid, using the Intel ich9 or LSI mode. Could not install 2003 server x64 with out BSD, needs to be R2 version only. Used Crucial memory that was spec'd for this board. Still could not install the OS.

Onboard video is terrible, Bios is way to slow. Support from Intel is terrible, Called 4 times and every time they blamed it on my drives or SATA optical drive. I used the same WD RE3 1TB SATA drives on all of my past 10 server builds with no issues at all.

Intel customer support told me to use an external USB cd/dvd drive to do the install. Tried it too, and it did not work.

These boards are cheap and you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Purchased SuperMicro a X7SBL-LN2 and installed 2003 x64 on the first try. Same hardware, memory, and drives plus Adaptec 3805 SAS/SATA raid controller with no issues.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Entry Level Server Board

Pros: Stability: The OpenSolaris file server I built on this board has been running flawlessly for three months non-stop. Absolutely zero issues under some pretty brutal conditions.

Feature Set: 6 SATA ports + ECC + LGA775 + integrated graphics + great driver support... That combo is surprisingly hard to find.

Intel's diagnostic utilities and customer support record are also a plus.

Cons: BIOS navigation is sluggish and I had some issues booting with a USB CD drive (would sometimes freeze until dis/reconnecting it).

SATA ports are of the non-clipping variety, so make sure everything is secure if you need to move the case.

Other Thoughts: Yes, this board's POST will take longer than your mother's Dell, but it's a server board. If you ever do have to reboot it, you'll be grateful for the extra testing.

Also, there are tomes of documentation that cover more than anyone could ever possibly need to know. The main user guide is 140 pages and the RAID guide is another 50. Printing everything out would've been impractical, it's all on CD.

3 out of 5 eggsDOES HAVE RAID-5!!!

Pros: Quality build
Cheap
Good basic feature set

Cons: Slowest post of any board I have ever seen
Slow BIOS GUI
Poor documentation

Other Thoughts: Many say that this board is falsely advertised as having RAID-5, but that is not true. You just have to make sure you use Intel Matrix Storage instead of LSI in the RAID settings in the BIOS. They don't say that anywhere, so I had to call Intel to find out. Their customer service takes a bit of getting started (stupid case numbers) but they are helpful.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this board because of how slow the POST and BIOS GUI are. Geez, I've never seen anything like it...

Also take note that you will be needing a floppy with Intel Storage Matrix drivers to install XP or Server 2003. On the list, go with the one that has "ICH8R/ICH9R" in the name.

2 out of 5 eggsRAID5....Where?

Pros: Cheap board for an entry level server.

Cons: Advertised as having RAID5. Only if you purchase more hardware... This should have been noted on the specs NEWEGG. BIOS are slow and sloppy.

Other Thoughts: Going Cheap buy this board! Need RAID 5 or Good BIOS look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent enough

Pros: Quick and easy installation... I don't think the boot up time is out side the norm compared to any of my other servers.

Cons: I was first bummed the cable in the picture did not come with the board. Found it it didn't matter as that is a floppy port and not and IDE port anyway.
Would have been nice of them too mention in the specs as to the fact that there is no IDE.

Other Thoughts: I had downloaded the PDF from intel on the board but had focused more on finding the recommended server chassis and missed the part about Integrated ATA being N/A

4 out of 5 eggsGood Basic Board

Pros: Board was easy to install/configure, and has performed great since.

Cons: We were hoping to use the onboard raid5 capibilities, but come to find out, you have to purchace a seperate card to enable anything more then raid1 on the board.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: It's a basic server board that would be great for small business entry level servers. Only if the boot problems in the cons weren't so terrible then you would have a great board!!

Cons: Beware that Intel has some SATA boot compatibility issues when the Intel matrix storage RAID option is enabled. Called Tech support and was told that there are issues and they don't know when a fix will be released. Mean while trying to figure out the boot sequence of this board is near impossible. Can't boot with a USB floppy plugged in, must unplug first. You only get one chance to boot from CD after configuring a raid set. Miss it and you have to delete raid set and recreate and then you can boot from CD. Major Major problems. Plug in a USB drive... it changes your boot options to boot from usb! It has been driving me crazy!!!

Other Thoughts: Intel generally puts out a great product and I pretty much always use Intel components. I have built 40+ servers with intel products and haven't had any problems until purchasing this board.
Other reviewer is correct, BIOS is SLOW!!!!! Really furustrating with the added boot problems!

I'm a said Intel customer at the moment. Feel kinda let down.
