5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: ease of installation, all inclusive, great little quad core processor, performance, little power use, price, price, oh, did I mention the PRICE? processing power

Cons: whine of fan, but, still quieter than my old board...

Other Thoughts: I wasn't looking for a board with lots of expansion, was actually needing a quick, temporary board.... now, I wish I had bought one for my other computer! Fantastic deal for what you get! Handles my all programs with ease and more speed than I ever expected. would and WILL buy another when I need it. would seriously recommend it for anyone who needs a basic, simple work horse.

5 out of 5 eggsGrat Netbox

Pros: Nice unit for browsing the net and accessing email. Total build price under $340. Have run Ubuntu 9.04 for a couple of weeks, Loaded Windows 7 RC last night. Works per specification

Cons: Stock fan is loud, plan on replacing. The high pitch whine was annoying.

Other Thoughts: This is not a high-end gaming or HD video board, read the specs.
Upgraded BIOS changed Windows 7 graphic experience rating from 1 to 2, still not high enough for Aero but acceptable for web browsing.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: None

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: I installed the board with a 2G mem and a 250GB Seagate and a DVD-RW drive. The unit powered up but there was no video. I verified all the connections but could not get either the S-video or the VGA.
Got an RMA from Newegg and returned the board.
I hope I'll have better luck with the retail version.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None

Cons: I installed the board with a 2Gig RAM and a seagate 250Gig Harddrive, in a new ITX case, connected everything and powered on. The board powered up but there was no video. Verified all the connections but still did not see any video output(both VGA and S-video). Checked intel documentation but did not help.

Other Thoughts: I contacted Newegg and fortunately they were very nice and gave me an RMA with return shipping. Will be returning tomorrow.
Hoping that I will have better luck with the retail version.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Cheap, efficient, and space saving. I purchased this for a build to act as a high quality music box hooked up to my receiver, and a ROM emulator . I got a SPDIF bracket from eB*y, and have wonderful quality sound pumping into my system, and the onboard S-Video is perfect for my use because I have no demand for hi-res or HD. It's performing all these tasks flawlessly with just a 1GB of RAM and a SATA HD. The power usage is ridiculously low to boot.

Cons: Running a little hot. I have it stacked on top of my receiver, which I know isn't a good idea but in most respects a necessity as it's still impossible to find mini-ITX cases that are actually mini. Would likely consider upgrading the cooling in this.

Other Thoughts: It was a little disheartening to discover how difficult it is to find SPDIF brackets. If motherboard manufacturers are going to put three pins on the MB specifically for digital audio out, they should be responsible for including the required cable and bracket, not some guy in Australia who is making WAY too much money off of the fact. DVI would have been a plus, but again, expectations for this board shouldn't be too high to begin with.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Very low price, S-video out for Standard Def HTPC use, very flexible BIOS customisations.

Cons: Intel's beating the i950 graphics like a dead horse. Time to move on.

Other Thoughts: With sufficient tweaking, this motherboard WILL do Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and other Boxee related goodness at their respective 720p resolutions without any issues under Linux (Ubuntu in my case).

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is ridiculous

Pros: This board is really awesome. Out of the UPS box, with no tweaks, it installed Kalyway 10.5.2 (hackintosh) Vmware ESXi with SATA storage, Mint Linux with compiz and Windows XP pro. If it wasn't for a few minor points, I would replace all of my machines with this board. This thing is really very impressive.

Cons: Only two sata ports and tops out at 2 gig of RAM. If it had 2 more sata ports and could take 4 or even 8 gig of RAM, this board would rule them all.

Other Thoughts: This is true OEM. Not even in a white box, it arrived inside a UPS media mailer type box wrapped in a static bag and bubble wrap, inside a newegg box of course. Wasn't sure what it was at first.

5 out of 5 eggsKiosk Workstation

Pros: Very responsive. Way more than I expected, anyway. Especially when compared to my eeePC which is only a single core. Runs LinuxMint or Ubuntu with no problems. Plays videos without hiccup too. Tested with 720p content.
Running Linux from an internal USB. Love the low power per FLOPS ratio.

Thanks NEWEGG!

Cons: It has a fan on the chipset. Runs at 50% by default, so it is quiet. You can hear it if you put your ear next to it. But I would like to see a bigger heatsink fanless. As soon as I find a sizeable clip-on heatsink I plan to replace it. I don't like moving parts on something that will be running 24/7. It just means I will eventually have to replace it later.

Other Thoughts: I am buying several more of these for embeded projects.
I read another reviewer complaining about CentOS 5.2 and Intel network drivers. Why use an OS (Redhat/Fedora/CentOS) that does not consider Intel NICs standard? That's why I stopped using them in my projects. You will have no problem with this board running Debian Ubuntu or even Gentoo(my favorite).

5 out of 5 eggsany complaints with this cpu and mobo combo can only come from a lack of tech knowledge

Pros: you will not find a combo like this, forget the overpriced jetway junk. $80 for a board w/ a dual core w/ hyperthreading running on an fsb of 533 and can handle 2g of ddr2 667, good grahpics, good audio. fast!! not blazing, fast!!! i saw a review where some knucklehead complained about the little heat sink (obviously missing the point of the atom series) that came with the combo. i've worked the heck out of it with multiple apps running and multimedia intensive, everything i threw at it the temp of either core never got above 100f. unless you're a gamer or doing heavy media editing, this thing will do it all. absolutely amazing the era of the big box computer is over this changes everything. this is to computers what solid state chassis were to television. if you are in the PC repair business you better get ready for an early retirement. and it run linux beautifully, mr gates better rethink the philanthropy bull and save his dough, the goose that laid the golden egg just flew.

Cons: PC power freaks who don't understand the atom concept and write dumb reviews.

Other Thoughts: someone complained no dvi, please! using a 20' acer monitor though vga and it's as good as vga gets. another said it doesn't run big programs. pluged in an sd card loaded with pics and dumped them as fast as with my dual core laptop, then i ran gimp (a big program) and photo edited with no problem. within a year atom systems will be everywhere you look.

4 out of 5 eggsMini Powerhouse

Pros: These boards are quite fantastic. I've been using them with embedded Linux setups for multiple types of dedicated hardware. Everything from mp3car to dedicated weather recording. The max draw on the power averages between 36-55W depending on the hardware used.

Cons: The heatsink is quite horrid, the only reason for getting 4 eggs instead of 5. However, I've tested this board for over two months with no fan and it's still stable.

Other Thoughts: The only difference between this board and the BOXD945GCLF2 is the retail blue box. Save yourself a little money in the long run.
