5 out of 5 eggsBe aware

Pros: Good compatibility; excellent reliability; very stable

Cons: video drivers cold be better for differing resolutions; no built-in RAID-5.

Other Thoughts: The folks that are giving this a bad rating, outside of board failure, most likely do not have the ability to set up this board. It is NOT for novices. It takes a lot of knowledge to set up this board, knowing which fans to install and where, what BIOS settings to edit, etc.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a huge mess Be warned

Pros: NONE

Cons: Wow where do I start. I purchased this board because our company server had died. I installed the board and everything was working expect for the NICS. Intel told me this was a 'known problem' with the NICS missing the capacitors. I asked NewEgg to replace or refund since I just bought it. They told me to contact the manufacture to which I did. In the meantime I purchased an asus board so I could get my company server back online. Intel sent the replacement board back which I turned into NewEgg for a Refund. NewEgg denied my refund because it was 'not the original product' which is totally sad because I followed every single direction that NewEgg and Intel told me to regarding this process, and in the end NewEgg denied my refund.

Other Thoughts: I will be doing business elsewhere from now on.

4 out of 5 eggsSatisfied

Pros: 1) The board is performing as advertised, no problems to report.

2) Despite a few significant errors and omissions mentioned below, the documentation isn't bad.

3) I can run it with one proc/one bank of memory until I'm ready to upgrade

4) Intel Deployment Assistance utility makes updating BIOS easy.

Cons: 1) This motherboard has a female (Molex 50-57-9405) "Auxiliary Power Signal" connector. The connector is supposed to connect to Intel's proprietary power supply which comes with their proprietary chassi$. The purpose of this connector is to enable communication with Intel's PSU. The mobo contains an I2C master that controls Intel's PSU, so, for example, if your system overheats, it can turn itself off. The system should still boot and run fine without anything plugged into this connector, but if you're talking to Intel Support about a related problem they will dutifully recite "the motherboard is only supported in the recommended chassis."

Other Thoughts: Still burning it in. I plan to use it for a hyper-v host.

Additional Cons:

2) The board makes undocumented beeps. This can be a source of concern because the *documented* 3 beeps on boot--that indicate a memory problem--cannot be differentiated from the *undocumented* 3 beeps on boot that enumerate the USB devices (which, as is often the case during initial setup, are the USB controller, USB keyboard, and USB mouse) if you've never heard either before. This is a rather silly oversight by Intel that doubtlessly has caused untold confusion.

3) The board takes a long time to POST. Expect to stare at a black monitor for 60 seconds with cold boot; 20 seconds with warm restart.

4) Optimal memory population depends on which documentation you read. Read more than the Quick Start Guide and use the Memory Configuration Tool.
