4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive and worked for what I needed.

Cons: As noted before, the processor clip is badly designed. Also, getting the heatsink to attach was beyond a pain, far more than for other Intel boards I've used. Minus one egg.

Other Thoughts: Basically I needed a motherboard to allow me to use extra components I had accumulated. Wanted to build a basic PC for guests to use when they came over so people would stop using my computer and messing it up. It’s nothing fancy, but it works, especially after flashing the BIOS, which has to be done twice since the current version will only work if the BIOS is first updated to the preceding revision.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works, like the layout, has all I need... but - see cons.
2 stars because it works - after I fixed it.

Cons: processor retaining clip doesn't fit.

Other Thoughts: A little tool work and it fits, but I'm sure if something else goes wrong, I've invalidated the warranty. Pretty poor quality control. It wasn't the processor or fan; they fit fine on another board (not Intel). They fit fine on this board too - without the top part of the retaining clip, just the fan holding the cpu on; I doubt that would a good long term solution, and I thought fixing it myself would be cheaper and faster than an rma. Have another puter with a Biostar mobo - that clip is far better looking than the Intel one, and it's a cheaper board. This was my first Intel board, probably my last, too.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with one flaw

Pros: A decent board, well laid out, a metric ton of usb headers.

Would recommend for non Windows Home Server duties.

Cons: There are no legitimate network card drivers for this motherboard for Windows Home Server 2011 / Windows Server 2008 from Intel. Since a network card is required for a WHS install I had to drop in some decrepit pci network card lying around to get to a point where I can find a hacked driver.

Other Thoughts: I get it Intel, you don't want people buying cheap boards for server installs. But when a person can drop in a $5 pci nic card you are only complicating someones life.

4 out of 5 eggsBetween XP and Win7

Pros: Still has serial headers and XP can run on it fine.

Very FAST boot and great Cmos settings.

I really like it.

Cons: To run i5 chips, needs bios upgrade past 0038. You must use a i3 chip to flash bios. All 4 boards came from newegg with 0038.

Out of 4 boards 1 died. after 2 mounths, to the point it would not even post and another had the NIC go out on it.

5 out of 5 eggsOld meets New here

Pros: This classic MB supports your old parallel printer and any old serial devices...and at the same time can run the 2nd-gen Core-i CPUs, have two monitors and up to 8GB of RAM.

Cons: none at this time.

Other Thoughts: This is MB a great workhorse for home or small business. If you need to build a new PC but don't want to have it forcing you to buy a new printer, then this is a good pick.

4 out of 5 eggsNo Problem Board

Pros: -Parallel port
-Support for the i series processors.

I have personally built around 15 PC's with this motherboard in them, none had any problems. Most of those PC's have been onsite for months and again not one customer or employee has complained. We are now switching to this board as the main motherboard in our builds.

Cons: -No VT support (not really an issue on most machines.)
-Only one x16 slot

Other Thoughts: Really this is a classic series board that is mostly meant for people who need a computer for work.

This is defiantly not a gaming or a low-end server board.

2 out of 5 eggsVery bad USB support in Linux

Pros: Works with Windows 7 and Linux.

Cons: Debian kernel crashes with my USB KVM switch, only works when you don't switch around consoles. Very weird problem, I deal with PCs on daily basis and never seen this issue.

Certain PCI cards will cause whole machine to reboot, while those work fine on other hardware.

Reset switch does not work as intended, instead shuts down the machine. I double checked several times to make sure reset switch connected to proper reset pins on frontpanel header.

No VT-D, no pci passthrough support.

Other Thoughts: Requires newer Intel Linux drivers, older kernels don't have them.
