5 out of 5 eggsEverything I Expected

Pros: Bought for science! It was cheap and I needed it to produce heat for experimentation with various coolant techniques. It did a fine job.
Now it's a server. It is completely passively cooled and only uses around 150 watts.
Could handle 720p youtube video playback last I checked.

Cons: This is an extremely cheap motherboard. It is flimsy and has only PCI ports. It doesn't have Gigabit Ethernet. and it only supports IDE ribbon cables. No SATA here.
It comes with a soldered on Celeron @ 1.3GHz which cannot be replaced and is very slow. Only has 2 DIMM slots for DDR2 memory.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this to be your primary desktop. It does a fine job as a Linux server though.
Bought back in 2011 still works today.

4 out of 5 eggsMet my expectations

Pros: Coolest running Pentium 4 desktop board you're likely to ever encounter. Can keep older systems with dying motherboards afloat, or can run a low powered system with the old RAM and PATA drives you may have lying around.

Cons: Factory thermal paste job was poor. Arctic Silver 5 made a big difference.

I wish capacitors were further away from the CPU heatsink. May cause the board to age a bit prematurely.

Driver disk was packaged poorly; got severely scratched by the pins on the bottom of the motherboard. Got the drivers from the Intel website, but the destruction of the disk was preventable.

Included IDE cable behaved a bit strangely when I imaged a disk with Clonezilla, as if master/slave position affected how the new drive booted. I can't pin down the exact issue, but I had more success with my longer, rounded IDE cable. If you get this board and it acts weird, try a different cable.

Other Thoughts: Bought this board to migrate a Win2000 installation of a dying motherboard that also had an Intel 865 chipset. A little tricky in the beginning, but no fault of the board.

I don't understand why SATA cables came with the board as there are no SATA headers. Not complaining though. Who can't use another SATA cable?

As previously mentioned by another reviewer, CPU doesn't run so cool as to not need good ventilation. Having good case airflow (or case ventilation, at least) is in your interest.

If you've got some old RAM and IDE drives lying around, this is a great way to put them back to work. I see this board inside a couple servers in my future.

Would give this board 3.5 stars, but 3 would be a bit harsh.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Shipping was fast. Customer service agreed to send out RMA right away.

Cons: Could not get it to POST. Called INTEL for assistance, this board is no longer supported. INTEL Tech informed me that the problem was with the Celeron M (Mobile) processor installed in a Desktop board. Although it fits the socket, the circuitry is different. I'm sending it back and cannot recommend this MB/CPU combo at this time.

1 out of 5 eggsUnhappy Day

Pros: Fast silvery, less than two days.

Cons: Manual did not match model of motherboard
I received an open box when the item I purchased didn't state the box was opened.
Motherboard was DOA

I am VERY unhappy.

Other Thoughts: RMA service is fast, I'm unhappy I have to pay for return shipping. Getting an RMA number took no time at all.

3 out of 5 eggsIs there SATA?

Pros: This is aquestion to people who own this board.
the photos show sata cable is included. There do not appear to be sata connectors on the board. Two PATA connectors are seen, but the specs say there is only one PATA channel. What kind of I/O does this really have?

Cons: cannot find the manual online

4 out of 5 eggsGood board for putting old hardware to use.

Pros: -Celeron M processor provides about the same processing power of a 2.4GHz Northwood P4 with a bit less than half the TDP and power consumption.

-Fanless heatsink configuration can allow you to run with fewer points of failure on systems that only occasionally see heavy loads.

-Intel 865 chipset allows for compatibility with legacy OSes back to Windows 98SE.

Cons: -The CPU dissipates too much heat to run in a completely fanless case, especially if you're going to be running applications that will keep the CPU heavily loaded.

-Lack of an AGP or PCI-E slot may limit its appeal to users who might want to use their old graphics card.

-The lack of a floppy controller may be an issue for some legacy users.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I consider this board an ideal candidate for:

-Legacy OS users looking for a board with official drivers to use as a replacement for old Pentium 3s and 4s, or Socket 462 AMDs.

-File server or gateway server configurations requiring multiple NICs. (I actually use this board as a file server/proxy gateway/virus scanner/firewall box for my in-house LAN.)

People who want to run OSes newer than XP or to create an HD-capable HTPC would be served better by other boards, as this single-core CPU isn't powerful enough to play back HD video effectively or insure responsiveness under Vista or Windows 7. (Linux and FreeBSD users may want to avoid using KDE4 on this board for the same reasons.)

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Cheap? Three PCI slots.

Cons: Ordered two of these for IPCop firewalls I am building. One was DOA. The other booted but would lockup once you got in to BIOS. Never got them to work. Got my RMA today, will send them back tomorrow. I decided to spend a little more money and get something better.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps I just got two bad ones at once? I cannot recommend them. I would have returned them for new ones and tired again but I need these firewalls up sooner.
