5 out of 5 eggsGreat MoBo

Pros: All the bells and whistles

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I know that some people have had issue with this MoBo. But once you know how to get around the one silly issue, this is a well-performing, appropriatley featured motherboard that has served me well. I have built around 20 systems with this Mobo and I have not seen a single failure or had a single complaint for our users.

The issue has to do with some video cards, We have bought the newer Asus EngTX560's for example and when you try to boot up the build for the first time, it doesn't work. The trick is to boot up with an older generation card, which the BIOS can deal with and then install the correct ddriver for the newer card. When you swap out to the newer card, you are simply good to go.

I don't know if Intel has fixed this issue by upgrading the BIOS, but that is the only real problem with this MoBo and we love it.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Need to update bios if you plan on using anything new (nvidia gtx 400+ series) or the motherboard will not work.
Also my board has no working sound ports, I had to use a mic/headset USB convertor with 3rd party application to get sound to work. This is a terrible product by Intel. DO NOT GET, this is my last motherboard by them.

Other Thoughts: Overall a really bad motherboard.

3 out of 5 eggsYAY NewEgg

Coming Soon!

Pros: This is a follow up comment to my last review.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I decided to call newegg and BEG & Plead for a quicker exchange.

It turns out that the support person on Chat is not able to perform the direct excahnge (since they don't take credit card info there).

But if you call in for assistance, the people on the phone can take your card, and send out your replacement (probably depending on the item).

So my RMA is on the way!!!! YES!

Thanks Renee

1 out of 5 eggsNot so great

Pros: Power button on the motherboard for easy testing.

Cons: This board did not work right out of the box. It would not recognize my gtx 480. After much pain staking troublshooting, I realized that the bios needed to be updated. Luckily i had an older card to try this. Unfortunately the board would not take the bios flash. I was unable to get my video card to work. Also, the board was glitchy. It took 3 tries for it to boot properly with the older video card in every single time. After trying to flash the bios many times and different ways, I finally gave up and purchased an MSI board. Worked right out of the box.

2 out of 5 eggsBIOS FW Issue

Pros: Once everything was up and running it appears to be a solid motherboard with an easy to use BIOS screen and built in profiles for overclocking making it a breeze to make quick adjustments. I also like the tuning and monitoring software provided by Intel.
I had no complaints with the hardware as the installation of all of the components went very smoothly.

Cons: This board has a very major issue out of the box which I believe should warrant a recall or a notification before it ships to the customer. The BIOS revision does not support many of the new PCI-E video cards so I had to install and older video card to update the bios before it would support my GTX560. This was a pretty big inconvenience as I had to drive to a friends how since I didn't have a spare card lying around. Once the BIOS was updated I was able to finish the install.
I also had an issue setting up Intel's Smart Response Technology since following the directions step by step failed multiple times and required a OS reinstall each time (The key is to not connect the SSD until after the OS install). I found Intel's support to be pretty poor in providing any assistance.

Other Thoughts: If the board didn't have a BIOS issue out of the box I would be happen to give it more eggs but that is a pretty major issue that needs to be addressed.

3 out of 5 eggsBefore you buy read this post so can use the MB.

Pros: The board performs great and a ton of features for those that like to tweak things up a bit.
The skull and red eyes are a nice touch granted if you are into that.

Cons: Do not buy this board UNLESS YOU OWN A PCI VIDEO CARD TO UPDATE BIOS. There is a major bios revision issue with this board and until the stock is swapped you will receive a board that might not work with your PCI-E video card. So to fix this issue you must get a PCI video card, go into bios under boot options add F7 bios update option. Reboot flash bios and then put your new card in. First time ever I had to this with an Intel board and sad they did nothing about it.

Other Thoughts: I love the board but Intel needs to step up the testing phase before they unleash this to the market. Simple bios issue caused I am sure tons of people to return the board.

1 out of 5 eggsno video with GTX560

Pros: Maybe, not there yet.

Cons: Out of box this board doesn't recognize GTX 560 (EVGA) and GTX 550 Ti (Gigabyte) video. Probably many other mid-range PCI-E16 video cards as well, but I only tried those two. You get 2+2 beeps on boot and that's it, no video output. You need to upgrade mb BIOS to make these cards work, in my case it was from version 2062 to 2111. I used "F7" built-in feature to upgrade BIOS and now the mobo recognizes GTX560 OK. Note that this mobo doesn't have an on-board video and thus you need an older video card to flash BIOS (in my case 9800GT worked fine) and another computer and thumb-drive to download .BIO file.
No printed manual in the package, only CD. Quick Reference is a set of confusing pictures.

Other Thoughts: The board should have a huge yellow sticker explaining the problem most customers will run into, but even Intel support site doesn't have it listed anywhere. I wonder how many people ended up RMAing video, then mboard, switching PSUs, etc, lost time, lots of frustration... Intel LiveChat support is a joke, it's kind of there for you, but not really. Nevertheless... I hope this board will behave OK from now on, I'll add more eggs then, FTM just one.

3 out of 5 eggsOkay MB, but a pain to get running...

Pros: Great features all around, not visible manufacture issues.

Cons: a) Had to flash to BIOS to get it to recognize my GTX 580. Good thing I had a GTX 280 lying around.

b) Overall the BIOS is... slightly glitchy. Was hoping for a more stable version but oh well.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.

2 out of 5 eggsNot up to Intel's usual high quality.

Pros: Nice feature set. Allows for over clocking if that is your thing. I'm not an over clocker but all the extra diagnostic tools and custom memory profiles are really nice.

Cons: Well this is not the rock solid intel board I am used to getting. Out of the box it had issues. First it wouldn't recognize my gtx 560ti video card, after a lot of digging found that a bios update would solve the problem. However it's not going to be that easy. The bios won't take the flash update. I tried three different methods. Remove the battery and finally get it to take. Boot the system and all seems well for a while then start having some stability issues. I spend all day battling those problems and everything seems well. Ran fine all of the next day. Then late in the evening I'm playing BC and a memory voltage alarm triggers but returns to normal quickly. Hmm...well kept playing BC2 and all of the sudden the CPU temp jumps to 250c (I did mention the cool monitoring tools above) then drops to zero. After this the mouse starts freezing and the computer won't shut down. Sadly this board is just is not up to Intel's usual high standards. So back to New Egg it goes.
