Intel BOXD2700MUD Intel Atom D2700 Intel NM10 Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo

Pros: As I said in a previous post, I was waiting on Intel returning two repaired / new boards for my dead ones.

They sent out the new boards promptly!

Cons: They are every bit as temperamental, unreliable and generally rubbish as they boards that died.

One will not post with my ViewSonic monitor; a monitor that works perfectly with 11 other laptops and PC's I've tested it on. There's a routine in the BIOS which tries to detect which port is the primary - and I think it was written by a five year old: it doesn't work at all.

The other board, the NIC randomly works one day but not the next. "The device failed to start" error under device manager and Intel knowledge base has nothing on it. Chop and change drivers - no help.

I feel that the issue here isn't bad hardware, but a truly atrociously written BIOS. Installed the latest BIOS and no better.

The change log states the latest bios supports the European power saving standard and no other fixes / improvements... Well that's splendid, but how about supporting actually working for more than a day? :-/

Other Thoughts: I've just dumped these two mobos into a corner in the basement. Wish I could get my money back.

I won't sell them on, as no-one should have to suffer a terrible product!

Pros: Small footprint

Cons: I got a used board, board manufactured in March 2012, BIOS is Nov 2012, dim 0 does not work, sata1 port is not working, VGA output sometimes works , sometimes not.
Board took 8 days to arrive in Toronto.
The Intel box had a big piece of tape to keep the top closed , this is not the way they pack new products.

Other Thoughts: Very dissapointed, called the customer service they said that that is the way they receive it

Pros: Price, ease of use/configuration. Dual-Core hyperthreading processor.

Cons: No video drivers for Win x64, only 2 Sata 3 ports, limited to 4gb RAM.

Other Thoughts: These little guys work great for very basic appliances. For a simple home file server, proxy server or firewall for instance. I have two of these boards and so far they've been solid as a rock. One running Sophos Astaro 64bit and one running Win7 x64 as a home file server (running standard vga at 1280x1024). While the video driver issue for Win 64 is annoying, it's not a show stopper for my purposes. Since there is a PCI slot, one could add a better video card if you desired. I could have chosen to run Win7 32 as there is a video driver for that, but as mentioned, this is just a file server so video really doesn't matter much to me. As for only 2 sata ports, again an add on card would fix that issue. It's too bad intel doesn't put multiple sata 6 controllers on there like the Asus/AMD C60-M1 (which I also have running Lubuntu + Squid).

This product really is best left for non-video intensive, non-processor intensive functions. It is however excellent for SOHO File/Print servers, Firewalls, Proxy servers, etc.

A $100 gaming rig it is not, nor will it ever be.

Pros: Cheap (relatively) and one of the only boards with the new, faster atom.

Good documentation with the board and Intel support is decent.

Cons: Horrible soldering, flux residue all over the PCB, seriously it looks like it's been dipped in candle wax!

Cheap OST capacitors used on the PCB.

No graphics drivers for anything older than Vista. You can use the embedded driver if you are installing XP or Server 2003, but it's a horrible bodge job without proper hardware acceleration. Intel should just release some decent drivers!

Here's the worst part though: two boards I bought and used in very different situations both died within a month of each other. Black screen, no POST and dead as a rock!

Waiting on Intel shipping me new ones and hopefully they will live a little longer than a few months.

Other Thoughts: Intel make some great CPUs... And some terrible motherboards.

Pros: To be determined after fixing bogus memory.

Cons: Strike my previous comments.

Other Thoughts: My initial thoughts on the reliability of the motherboard are not correct. One of the SO-DIMM modules is bad. I will chase this lead now. I recind all of my previous negative comments.

Pros: Low cost, low power, doesn't take up much space.

Cons: The motherboard/BIOS is not reliable.

Other Thoughts: Upon initial assembly, the system ran with any issues. Approximately 4 months later, unprovoked system reboots/hangs/panics started. I ran MemTest86 overnight, this proved that there are zero problems with the RAM. I also upgraded the Power Supply from 200W to 350W thinking that maybe the system was on the cusp of losing regulation. No change in behavior. I have replaced the system drive, again, no change in behavior. Towards the end, just before the motherboard failed completely, entering into the BIOS became more and more difficult with unpredictable lock ups.
Before the complete failure, I tried several BIOS versions, all behaved the same way.

Pros: Good for NAS setup

Cons: Does not refresh video properly for FreeBSD based FreeNAS

Other Thoughts: Although I am running FreeNAS 8.3 on this box; it is only because I know how appliance OSes web servers work that I am able to use this.

Hardware wise it does it's job for serving my FreeNAS install over the home network. But I would be stuck if I couldn't configure FreeNAS in the browser from my other systems.

Pros: I use it for a small home server. It run TeamSpeak Server, UPnP Server w/Transcoding and Storage service juste fin; The processor run just as expected and the on board graphic is running well during the server setup. And finally this motherboard/cpu combo almost don't produce heat (The sensors only detecting 40 degree. (The computer is in a closed cabinet))

Cons: Don't found any...

Pros: For what it is, it does an excellent job. Excellent at low power applications, light duty server use. 32 bit OS's. I personally have found the Intel atom boards to be extremely reliable. 10 watt power use for the board alone.

Cons: 64 bit support. Video support.

Other Thoughts: I've run the 525 boards for awhile, and I've always been impressed with the concept behind the atom boards. Replaced two of my 525 systems with this board, and it's been about what I expected. A couple things (which, if you're reading this, you've probably already figured out).

1. Don't bother trying 64 bit with these boards. I gave a half hearted attempt, but, it just isn't worth it.

2. Video driver support for anything other than 32 bit Win 7 is pretty much non-existent at this time.

I set up one system as a Linux GlusterFS based file server. It's a personal system, so not alot of load, but for 10 watts of power used, on a gig copper network, it's as fast as the file system. Absolutely no complaints, works perfectly.

The other system is an attempt at a mythbuntu replacement. Not so great, so far.

These atom boards are reliable, predictable pieces of electronics. But, they aren't high power systems, and they aren't fully supported for every use. Keep that in
