4 out of 5 eggsNIC got sick, and died

Pros: It was very affordable when I bought it last September and fast! On board sound is good for most intentions

Cons: None really, had a bit of an issue with the TPM not being compatible.

Other Thoughts: Fixed the TPM issue by installing the software, activating the chip with the software, reinstalling Windows, then turning on the TPM. Then it was fine, oh, and the NICs began to go, eventually with Windows first, then with every other operating system. Linux Mint lasted the longest....

2 out of 5 eggsSeems faulty

Pros: Functioned flawlessly for a few months, affordable.

Cons: After a bit of use, the network adapter often stops working. Also exhibits the same behavior other users described: USB devices begin dropping out in repeated bursts, at which time the network adapter dies completely. Forces you to restart your computer.

Other Thoughts: I'm sad. This motherboard seems to be dying. I do not have money for another one. Should have bought something else. :[

3 out of 5 eggsNo Sound

Pros: Everything works exceptionally well -- EXCEPT FOR THE SOUND! I would like to get the sound working properly before I attempt fiddling with the clocks.

Cons: NO SOUND! Realtek HD audio simply doesn't work. I've used Intel's audio troubleshooter, I've updated drivers with both Intel's website and with Realtek's website and I've installed Realtek's ALC892 CODEC -- Nothing helps. Nothing from the motherboard's rear jacks or from the Antec case's front headphone jack.

Other Thoughts: Who has been able to get someone from Intel to talk to them?

5 out of 5 eggsNice features

Pros: Legacy DB9 serial connector (we're still stuck with it but it's a good ol' stable standard), dual monitor support, fanless bridge, color-coded connectors, and the charge-only USB connectors were a nice touch.

Cons: Intel's heat sink and fan mounting infrastructure is not nearly as robust as AMD's.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard in combination with a 77W Core i5 and SSD make for a fast yet quiet workstation that is the envy of users in the office that haven't gotten theirs yet.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: LGA 1155, Q77 Chipset, Dual Gbit NIC, decent expansion, priced right

Cons: They're not giving them away!

Other Thoughts: I have two of these boards. One is running pfSense and the other ESXi. As a pfSense appliance this board does a lot. It's probably overkill but it's incredibly expandable and I'll never be able to saturate the chipset with four Gbit connections.

ESXi runs incredibly well on this board. However, ESXi does not recognize of the NICs, so you'll never get to use that one. That's not the board's fault, that's a shortcoming of ESXi. I have an i7-3770S inside and maxed out the 32GB of RAM. The server hosts 13 virtual host on this single node. The Q77 chipset really lends itself well to any kind of virtualization and coupled with an Ivy Bridge processor it's the bomb!

I am very, very happy with these boards and will probably buy a couple more before they're discontinued for something better.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent motherboard for a UNIX / Linux workstation build

Pros: .
- Supports UNIX and GNU/Linux operating systems right out of the box.
- Packs a nice feature set, given the MicroATX form-factor.
- Due to the business-class Q77 chipset, the lone PCI slot is natively supported.
- Robust build quality which is designed to last for years.
- Intel's excellent warranty coverage.

Cons: .
- Intel is exiting the motherboard business after Haswell.
- The mSATA port is wired to a SATA II (3 Gbps) bus.

Other Thoughts: .
Just as a pro-tip for anyone considering this board for Linux, I highly recommend you update to the latest BIOS available for this board from Intel's Download Center, as various issues with Power Management and MTRR are resolved.

The inclusion of native PCI is a big deal to me since, unlike PCI slots that utilize PCI-to-PCIe bridge chips (such as those found on Z77-based motherboards), you are able to attain high performance and lower latencies along with superior compatibility. This is especially important for professional PCI audio cards and the like.

Considering how solid this product is, it will be very sad to see Intel exit the motherboard business after they launch their Haswell offerings. G_d speed Intel. You will be missed in this market segment.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Board works great. Everything just worked with no tricks needed to get the install working. Installed one with Win8 64 pro. Other with Windows Server. This board has serial header that I needed for some old hardware that does not like USB to serial converters.

Good choice of options to cover a lot of uses with no issues...

Installed with
32 GB 1600 Crucial memory with no issues.
Intel 335 drives
I7-3770
No over clock

Windows Experience Index
8, 8, 6.4, 6.4, 8.1

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I hope Intel copies this board with the next tick of the I7 chip.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid board with good features

Pros: Good feature set.
Has a mini PCIe port.
Lots of I/O options.
Great BIOS interface.

Cons: No vga connector, must use the included adapter. Not a big problem, admittedly.

Other Thoughts: As is typical with Intel motherboards, this design is a solid, no-nonsense design. However, that doesn't mean it skimps on features. (Check the specs for details.) One thing I'm impressed with is how clean the BIOS configuration interface is. Despite it providing you control over almost every aspect of the board, including overclocking, the interface doesn't feel messy or unnecessarily flashy. I'm also impressed at some of the small details, such as the fact that upon reboot the POST routine gives you plenty of time to press F2 to get into the BIOS settings. You don't have to sit there and repeatedly mash the button, hoping you'll get in. It's a small detail, but it's those kinds of things that Intel gets right.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Solid, feature-filled production workstation board at a fair price.
-Nice BIOS layout. Simple, intuitive, and detailed.
-I like the fine-toothed control you have over all three fan headers. Under all but the highest workloads, the fans hum along quietly at 30% of their rated speeds, barely audible.
-Motherboard headers are placed nicely such that there are no issues with power supply cables being able to reach everything via snaking behind the motherboard. I.e, no cable clutter in the case.

Cons: There are some USB issues. Wireless USB mice (I've tested three, two Microsoft brand and one Logitech) get jumpy during high cpu activity, and become completely unresponsive when I plug a SanDisk Extreme 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive into any USB 3.0 port (front or rear). This does not happen when I plug a USB 3.0 external hard drive (Western Digital 3TB) into the USB 3.0 port, so it appears to be a bug with the SanDisk Extreme. It also does not happen when I use any of my USB 2.0 flash drives. I've updated chipset and USB 3.0 drivers to the latest versions but the problem remains.

Other Thoughts: The USB mouse issue only seems to occur with wireless mice. I tried a wired USB mouse and the problems mentioned under Cons did NOT occur. Other than this, I'm very happy with the board, and hopeful that a driver update from Intel will eventually fix this issue.
