1 out of 5 eggsStay Away from EPOX. Support stinks

Pros: It's worked all these years

Cons: Had to reload my server OS and can't find the MB drivers. I can search for downloads for this MB, but there are no drivers offered. If I try to register on their site, they don't even admit to this board's existance.

4 out of 5 eggsAnother decent Epox board

Pros: -Extra heatsinks

Epox gives you a bag of small heatsinks to apply to electrical components that tend to run hot, such as mosfet's and capacitors etc. It's a nice plus.

-EZ buttons

Theres a few buttons on the board you can use to quickly power on the board and do tests with. It's a nice touch that's a welcome addition.

-Port80 LED

The troubleshooting LED I've come to love. It shows you the an error code in case something goes wrong during boot. The explanations to those codes can be confusing though.

Cons: -Popping sound

I have yet to find a solution for the popping sound that occurs whenever I play games/sound files/movies. It occurs on both my on-board and Creative card, and I'm suspecting the motherboard. Maybe a driver update will fix things, but in the meantime I'm playing ball with tech support.

-Only one IDE port.
I still have PATA drives and in conjunction with my DVD-
RW this poses a slight problem.

-FDD port all the way on the bottom of the board. I don't use floppies anymore, but for people that do and have a big case, it might be a problem.

-Epox tech support

While I use their online ticket system, it's not a stellar solution. The interface is old (like their website) and a little insufficient. They respond a bit sluggish and their responses are full of typo's. I think it's directly from Taiwan.

- The sticker

The sticker that covers the PCI slots sticks very well and tears when you want to remove it. Scraping glue off PCI sockets is not my idea of fun

Other Thoughts: The accessories included are fairly generic, with the exception of the small heatsinks. the driver CD had the latest drivers for the chipset, though the audio and NIC were outdated.

After a bios flash using the tool supplied on the CD I was able to run my GeIL RAM in dual channel mode on their advertised timings. Setting the proper voltages was easy and the bios allows for a lot of tweaking. It even allows me to boot from my Promise PCI raid card, something I've had problems with in the past.

For me, the chipset gets covered by my videocard, and it might give some cooling problems. It is nicely cooled with an attractive long copper heatsink, so I won't dock any points.

For the rest I've hooked up 3 Sata drives, a dvd-rw, a GeForce 8800GTS, sound card, raid card and an AMD 64 X2 52.

Overall it's a decent board, but needs a few kinks worked out and it's lacking FireWire, something most Epox boards used to have standard.

1 out of 5 eggsWho knows

Pros: Looks good and appears to have a lot of good features.

Cons: EPOX CUSTOMER SERVICE!! After many phone calls and emails, over the course of 2 weeks, I have had NO response! This is absolutely unacceptable for a company this well regarded. The board I have appears to be working other than not having any video. I tried everything I could think of and then some. I asked around to other computer wizz friends and none had any advice other than what I tried. I can only assume that the video card I have (Biostar 7600GS) is incompatable. Will I ever know this for sure....doubtful.

Other Thoughts: Going to try another MB maker.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Working better.

Cons: Still has 2 bad SATA ports and less-than-adequate customer service.

Other Thoughts: Regarding my previous review, further testing revealed that it was both my 3 and 4 SATA ports that were causing the error, regardless of the hard drive. Ports 1, 2, 5, and 6 work fine. If you must call EPOX technical support, hit the extension for the accounting department and leave a message with the real person that picks up, not tech support's voice mail. They won't call you back.

2 out of 5 eggsChange In Review

Pros: Great feature set, decent price.

Cons: The board began to turn off at random times. After a couple of weeks like this, it stopped POSTing.

Other Thoughts: I've never had a piece of hardware stop working on me after one month that wasn't broken to begin with. Didn't see any bad capacitors. Epox is usually a decent brand, but against my previous recommendation I must strongly advise against this board.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board, inferior service

Pros: Absolutely loaded with features. Cables, extra USB Ports, easy to use BIOS. Comes with a decent manual. Good looking motherboard, well packaged, lots of LEDs would look great if I had a windowed case!

Cons: 2 minor beefs. 1.) The stupid Ghost BIOS sticker across the PCI slots is on there pretty good, it's not like it just peeled off. Why? 2.) The chipset fan sounds like a hairdryer.

1 Major Beef: One of my HDs (Seagate 7200.10) causes the POST to hang at DMI Pool data update. Updated BIOS, no good. So I check Epox's manual and website, no tech support number. Luckily Newegg has it. Got an answering machine during business hours. Have left 3 messages so far, no response. Their website support isn't much better.

Other Thoughts: I've been using ASUS for years and I thought I would give Epox a try because they looked like they had some good stuff. But if I'm going to pay a price comparable to that of an ASUS board, I expect a similar level of service, which I am not getting.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Stuff

Pros: Good feature set. Didn't need the second PCIe slot - SLI and xfire are pretty useless IMHO, unless you have a 3-4 monitor rig! Everything works as it should.

Cons: Colors are a bit cartoonish, though I don't have a see-through case so it doesn't matter. Location of chipset fan is a bit weird considering the video card sits above it.

Other Thoughts: If you want a great AM2 motherboard for a good price, this one is hard to beat.

1 out of 5 eggsdoa

Pros: Good features. Big heatsink for quietness, AND a fan for when it still gets to hot.

Cons: Didn't work. Tested other components, they were fine, replaced the motherboard, now my build works fine. (also, no firewire.)

Other Thoughts: Epox DOA. I RMA. Newegg A-OK.
