5 out of 5 eggsGreat for LGA771 mod!

Pros: Been years since I purchased this board. Still works flawlessly. Now it runs an E5430 LGA771 Xeon overlocked to 3.5GHz.

Cons: R.I.P ABIT

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding board, very glad I bought it in 2007

Pros: Good performance, plenty of expansion slots, no major compatibility issues.

Cons: The onboard RAID controller, when set to RAID mode, accesses disks in SATA I mode.

Using eSATA external connections can lead to system instability and strange symptoms. I believe that is a function of the specification itself rather than how Abit has implemented it.

Other Thoughts: I built a machine around this board in September 2007 and have run it almost continuously since then - More than seven years as of this writing. I've had to replace the power supply twice (obviously not Abit's fault.)

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: So I bought this board 5 or 6 years ago. It keeps track of how much on time you've had, and this board has over 29,000 hours of on time and over 51,000 hours of time being plugged in. I used it as my main PC for 4 or 5 years and now it is in a new case as an HTPC running windows 8.1. Very tough, lots of options in BIOS, overclocks well too. Many connectivity options. The board has a 2 digit LCD readout for diagnosing problems when you get no image on the monitor. Look up the code displayed on the readout in the manual and find out what the problem is. VERY handy.

Cons: Can be a bit finicky about boot devices. Sometimes it fails to see the hard drive after you've been changing things around inside even though it is securely plugged in, and really the only way I've found to fix it is to plug the hard drive into a different SATA port. Also, it has no boot menu. If you want to boot from a different device, you must go into BIOS. Abit is, of course, out of business. Their "uguru" chip in the board is no longer supported by anything newer than vista and will bluescreen if you try to install drivers (leave it disabled). I wouldn't care much about this except that motherboards with the uguru chips don't tend to work with programs like Speedfan, so with this board there is no way to manage fan speeds from Windows unless you have vista or older. The Bios options for fans are better than most, however, allowing you to set fan voltages from 8v-12v and vary based on CPU, PWM, or system temperature with individual control for all of the fans (1 CPU fan and 4 AUX fans I think).

Other Thoughts: If you are using a CPU cooler with more than one fan, the AUX1 and AUX2 headers are near the CPU header, so that's handy.
One reason I bought this board was that it used all solid capacitors, and not many other boards on the market at that time did. That, I think, is one reason (if not the main reason) why this board lasts so long. Happily, more manufacturers are using solid capacitors on boards these days, even on cheaper boards. It's something to look for, and you can see it in the product images. The electrolytic caps are wrapped in shrink plastic and on the top there is a circle of exposed metal that has grooves usually in the shape of a plus sign. You want to avoid these, often times these caps will start to bulge and eventually burst out the top and leak fluids. If you have a device with bulging caps, I would not advise using it. Solid caps just look like one hunk of metal (cylinder shape).

4 out of 5 eggsIt's A Trooper

Pros: Very reliable and expandable - still functions well today and supports a relatively modern system. The BIOS reset switch has saved my bacon several times.

Cons: Heatsink/heatpipe system could have been implemented better and I could have used more USB ports.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure what compelled me to review a motherboard I bought over 7 years ago, other than the fact that I'm still using it today in my main rig at home. I'm still using the same Q6600 G0 stepping CPU, and it's overclocked to 3.6GHz. I upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, the videocard is now the HD6950 (moved up from an 8800GT), and I have a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Running Strong

Pros: Bought this motherboard back in 2008 when I was a Jr. in highschool, it's still running great with no issues!

Cons: The user manual makes it seem like it can only run a core 2 duo processor at best...

Other Thoughts: I am currently running a core 2 duo processor but that doesn't do the gmae 'Rome 2' justice so I was thinking of buying a new mobo and processor, but just found out (via this webpage) that this baby can support a core 2 quad!!! If I had know this I would have upgraded years ago!!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing board after 5 years and counting of Service!

Pros: Top notch quality board. Purchased this mobo in 2008 and I just recently upgraded the system and it is a hard working board.

Cons: No Sata III and USB 3.0 but we know very well these 2 options were not standards back then.

Other Thoughts: I wished it had Sata III and USB 3.0 on it but i can always get an add on card to compliment this.

Board is running with a Core Duo Quad, 8GB of RAM, Intel SSD (240GB)

4 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: Great features, great performance with a range of CPUS

Cons: a little finicky about memory - but could just be 2.0V+, hangs in bott once in a while due to either manual timings and/or voltage recently

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome board

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Now limited due to its age.
E8600 isn't quite supported fully.

Other Thoughts: I originally had a Pentium Dual Core E2160 in it, but earlier this year I upgraded to a cheap E8600. The E8600 is the fastest dual-core that this board "supports," but it wouldn't boot up properly. Apparently E8600 support is problematic... in my case, it meant disabling temperature monitoring of the CPU as it was reading well out of range.

No big deal, this is a five year-old motherboard and it still rocks. I used to use my computer on the floor and had a tendency to generate static on the carpet. I shocked myself on the mouse twice, and the USB port got fried the second time it happened. Everything else still works fine. This thing is unbelievable.

Abit was the first brand of motherboard I bought when I built my first computer (a 166 mHz AMD K6). Back then, my Abit had a jumperless BIOS when everyone else was still stuck fooling with jumpers. I fell in love. I've owned a couple other brands, but none of them could compare to Abit. I wish they were still around.
