4 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: This board installs easy. The price is good for it can do. The overcloaking software is a snap if you are into that kinda thing. Fast delivery too.

Cons: Abit is bad about ram and the BIOS flash can be screwy. Also you have to have SP-1 for the USB 2 to work right. Other than that nothing else so far

Other Thoughts: This board would be great if it had more ram slots but hey the price is right.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: One of the last 478 boards. Windows loads driver for SATA.

Cons: Found problem using my old memory.I tried to use two strips of Kingston HyperX DDR333 on motherbord. The board tried to operate in dual channel mode. I had system hangs and other problems. I pulled one strip out and everthing is fine.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice to be able to operate two strips in single channel mode.

2 out of 5 eggsAbit IS-7E2 Review

Pros: It works at stock speeds for the CPU used : P4 2.5A, and Corsair PC 3200 memory. Great upgrade from onboard graphics.

Cons: CPU auto settings OC by 2mHz, and memory voltage settings are off by .10 volts. OC settings don't seem to work with the processor mentioned above.

Other Thoughts: Wonder if all of these motherboards have this problem, or if it the CPU used.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Straightforward and easy to install. Good Value for the Money.

Cons: No Firewire...but for this price I cant complain too much...

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a dead MSI Board, and re-booted perfect the first time... (the MSI board had same 865 Chipset also...) I have never had problems with any ABIT motherboards. I would recommend this only to someone replacing another similar board (socket 478). Otherwise, it would be worth the money to buy a newer rig. This is my last Intel board for a while…I am moving to AMD for now, at least until Intel has something better to offer!

1 out of 5 eggsIS-7 won't power up / no post

Pros: None other that excellent response via email from customer service person

Cons: Received board and would not power up. Got a RMA from Abit $12.00 shipping to return. Board was returned and board powered up but would not post. In case, out of case. All components check in a different machine. Contacted Abit support and was advised to call tech support. Called tech support and got message that no one was available to answer call. Left message requesting call back. That was a week ago. Now I undersdtand the "warranted by manufacturer only" note on this board.

Other Thoughts: No more Abit for me.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great motherboard for the price. Don't let the price scare you from buying it. This motherboard has been excellent and has worked flawless for two years now. Pheonix BIOS is easy to use and all on-board devices work great!!!

Cons: Could have two more DIMM slots.

2 out of 5 eggsBIOS code corrupt on delivery

Pros: As yet, undecided. Successful setup has not yet been acheived.

Cons: First thing upon trying to start this board:BIOS ROM checksum error. BIOS is stuck in bootblock mode.

Other Thoughts: An immediate BIOS ROM checksum error upon delivery is unusual to say the least. Have tried all the tricks I know of, new battery, clearing CMOS, etc to try and get this thing up. It still resets itself on every post.

The BIOS is stuck in bootblock, I know that. But recovering a corrupt BIOS first thing when I receive a board sounds incorrect to me. Will update this review when I receive the RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsUse carefully

Pros: Works well as long as you don't touch anything during POST.

Cons: Found a couple of software-related hangups during POST.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had any problems during "normal" operation, but two things caused me to have to reset CMOS.

1. Setup a one-character password to power on the MB via the keyboard. Saved settings and let it start rebooting. Powered off via the ATX switch during POST to test out the keyboard power on. Unit would not power on via keyboard or the ATX switch afterwards. Powered off the PSU, set the CMOS reset jumper, and afterwards it still would not power on. Had to power off PSU and remove CMOS battery for 30 minutes to recover.

2. Set the boot order to Floppy, then CDROM, then HDD. I have two optical drives, both slaves on each parallel IDE interface. I removed a bootable disk from CDROM #2 during POST / before the start of the OS boot process. The BIOS got hung after looking at CDROM #2. Afterwards, it would hang there every time unless a bootable CD was present.

5 out of 5 eggsMoan

Pros: Follow-up: still a GREAT board, see my comments Dec 2005.

Cons: But this dang chipset fan IS moaning again, despite oiling it. In my office, it would probably be OK if I just pulled the fan wire. But to be sure, I'm shutting down to Ty-Rap a better fan to the fins.

Other Thoughts: EGGsellent 478 motherboard, well worth a little fan-foolery.
