Unstable with dual-core -- Please Avoid
- Pros: Inexpensive,decent layout.
- Cons: Unstable -- freezes and stops responding, random reboots, fails to shutdown properly.
In the end, I had to add a /onecpu switch to the boot.ini to make it usable, effectively ruining the purpose of dual core.
- Other Thoughts: ABIT support has been one of the worst support experiences that I've had. I sent them a long list of everything I've tried over a month of patient troubleshooting and this was their response:
Dear Valued Customer, PLEASE NOTE THAT:: MOTHERBOARD WILL NOT BOOT BY ITSELF....YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST: CPU, MEMORY, VIDEO CARD, AND POWER SUPPLY.
Duh. This is my first and last Abit.
Check their own forums -- this board has problems.
Nice Features. Stability Issues. Bad Support.
- Pros: Nice features. All the bells and whistles I wanted.
- Cons: Nice looking board but the thing freezes up. It's a USB problem that is all over their support boards. I've build systems from scratch since 1992 and I've never had this much trouble out of a mobo, even back in the old days of jumpers and bios settings that really mattered.
- Other Thoughts: This was my first and LAST Abit purchase. Avoid like the plague unless you just like to solve wierd mobo problems.
Poor stability
- Pros: Nice layout. Plenty of BIOS options for overclocking. Passive heatsink works great.
- Cons: 1. This board has a major bug/issue with X2 CPUs. Using an X2 CPU may result in random hard locks, BSODs, reboots, etc when the USB ports are used. My rig is 24 hours Prime + 3DMark stable. However, transfer a couple of gigs over USB and *bam* instability.
Note, the board does not exhibit this behavior when using a single core CPU!
2. Poor memory performance. 1T may not be possible on your board. It seems that results vary wildly between AN8 users.
- Other Thoughts: Abit really dropped the ball here. Truth be told its a great board for single core CPUs, but the inability to run produce stabile results with dual core makes it pretty much useless, unless you don't plan on upgrading until the next socket.
