The GA-M59SLI-S5 is a totally off-the-chain AM2 motherboard from Gigabyte, designed to deliver serious quality for both extreme gaming and 3D graphics. There is little performance difference between motherboards targeted to Athlon 64 CPUs, because the chipset has a limited effect on performance. Because of this, which motherboard one should buy must be based on extra features, price and overclocking capability.

This amazing motherboard supports up to 16 GB of DDR2 RAM, and dual PCI Express x16 slots to churn out ultra-realistic graphics for your games. The innovative Silent-Pipe Technology provides the best possible silent cooling.

Supporting the AMD Athlon 64 and Sempron Processors with 800/1000MHz HyperTransport function, they’ve also enough connectors to link up almost anything you like. This is an intense motherboard for the extreme enthusiast!

4 out of 5 eggsOpen box - DOA

Pros: Great cooling system and, on paper, excellent feature set. Most reviews are positive and I would buy a new one today if I needed it but...see below.

Cons: In desperation, I bought an open box unit in May (see below) and had nothing but grief - unstable w/Athlon 6000+ and 4 GB (2 x 2GB) Patriot eXtreme Performance PDC24G6400ELK; trouble w/both RAID controllers (Nvidia and SiI3132). RMA'd it and bought an A*s*s C-hair for more $$. Too bad, I wanted to like the board and put a lot of time into a dead horse.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy an open box if there's no other alternative. I'm not beating up OB in general, they have been fine for me from New Egg (4-5 OB purchases in past year), this was my first bad experience, but it was a G-bite for me.
I'm guessing the new stock is a new rev of the board so it you want it, go for it - it <should> be a great board and a good deal.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Motherboard!!! A+++

Pros: Ok...this is a follow up to the first comment that I made a month ago. This motherboard is simply awesome. I have had zero problems. Dual bios is great! This is definately plug and play! Runs cool, nvidea is perfect, and ram was detected perfectly. BUY THIS WHILE YOU STILL CAN! This boad is way ahead of its time.

Cons: NONE! If you read negative comments about this board...notice that the problems are with the user, not the board. Things in life rarely work on the first try...especially with computers haha. Wait...actially...this board work for me on the first try...YAY!

Other Thoughts: Seriously though, Ive used other boards, this works the best. Ok...maybe its just my opinion, but its been running for a month with ZER0 problems. This board goes out of stock quite frequently due to it before you miss out!

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Motherboard

Pros: Well first off it is an easy setup on the board. I had no problems with raid. It supported the video well.

Cons: The thing couldn't handle more than 2 usb devices, I'm still baffled at this one all drivers installed iv go over the book looked into the bios and still cant find a solution. second the DRAM setup sucks. Iv had a few issues with the system just dumping and restarting.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this mother board with top of the line gear. Its just not built with it. It was my second pick because the company of my first pick was sold out of what I wanted....

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best if you Can Get It!

Pros: I got this motherboard a few hours before it went out of stock from Newegg to replace my A**S M2N-SLI Deluxe which had serious problems. In all my research of benchmarks this board is amazing. BIOS is well laid out. Easy to install as the board itself is made from good engineering. The heat pipes are amazing! Very effective. If you are looking for an AM2 MOBO, this is probably the best you can do. When I load maps in my multi-player gaming I'm always the first to load. That did not happen with the same hardware on the A**S. That A**S dieing was the best thing that happened to me because It brought me to Gigabyte (swell violins!)

Cons: None really. Handled my RAID0 out of the box, all hardware works. Floppy cable was garbage (eeh). Oh, and you cant flash BIOS with a memory stick, like the M2N-SLI Deluxe. I had to use... gasp... a floppy! These boards are HOT (no literally) and sell out quick so get one if you can. Brick and Morter stores sell these for 200+. Gigabyte did not discontinue this board because of any flaw, so don't let that bother you.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte products are better engineered than Asus. Gigabyte's tech support is second to none. System Specs: 2 sticks of XMS2 1gb DDR2 800, Athlon 64 5200 (5% over-clock), Xion 600W PS, BFG 7950 GTOC 512mb, Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, Audigy 2 GS, Lite-on Optical, Thermaltake Armor, 2 WD caviar 250gb on a RAID0, 1 WD Raptor 74mb.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: First time builder and it was plug and play with Vista Premium. You will need to download the new drivers from Gigabyte website but this board is running all day and runs cool !

Cons: The last NVidia 590 chips were run in Dec.06 . Whatever is out there are the last you'll see ! New model scheduled for this fall ?

Other Thoughts: NVidia 590 chips are no more ! You will have to wait until the fall to get their new chips on Gigabytes high end boards ! I can't wait to get one !! Current run 64x2 5200 - OCZ 660W - OCZ Titanium 4Gb - MSI 8800 640Mb - Zalman 9700 - Samsung 500Gb HD

5 out of 5 eggsDual Gigabit Ethernet

Pros: To the individual that posted requesting information on the the dual ethernet set up. It's really quite simple. Actually it's primarily a question of bridging your connections. Once that is done the system automatically recognizes the hardware change. What it does is allows one ethernet card to handle d/l packets the other to handle u/l packets. A very nice feature for gaining that most important PING advantage whilst gaming. Can be somewhat problematic with a wireless router, as I have discovered, but really no big deal. The performance gains that I have seen as it pertains to my gaming have been significant. At this point in the exercise, I outfitted my board with the Gigabyte 3D rocket cooler, wow! What else can I say, running fear and very nearly Max settings, holding stable at 94 F. This board really, really does rock! It is unfortunate that there are not more available currently. I really feel bad for you guys that can't get them. It truly is a great board.

Cons: None, I mean non on this board! Fabulous board.

Other Thoughts: So many peeps when doing a build settle on price vs. quality. In my opinion the two most important aspects to any new build is the quality and functionality of the board paired with the appropriate processor. It is pointless to buy a really great processor and place it on a substandard board. Please don't confuse price with quality, but please be aware of what you are getting in terms of a board and what you are trying to accomplish. I hope that this is helpful. G/L H/F

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This board has a great array of features and overclocks nicely.

Cons: I got my first one DOA. The replacement had an issue where it would display the wrong temperature. The BIOS was reading 12C-25C, which we all know is cold enough to cool a beer.

You also have to manually set your memory's voltage and timings. Make sure you do this to improve your stability.

Other Thoughts: To avoid RMAing it back to GIGABYTE before I make my Intel system, I got a temperature display for the front of my case.

GA-M590SLI-S5, Athlon 64 5000+ x2, 2GB Patriot DDR2 800, BFG 8800GTX.
