mediocre
- Pros: easy to install and almost everything worked well
- Cons: onboard sound was dead. rather than rma i bought a sound card.
Great economy board with PCI 16x
- Pros: Cheap, easy to configure XP Pro 32bit. Has SATA 3GB RAID. Although the official Gigabyte website doesn't list the newest AMD Brisbane AM2 CPU's as supported it worked with a 65W Brisbane core 5600+. Integrated graphics work great for any office based task I throw at it. For some time I had a GeForce 7900GT PCI 16x installed and it played games great.
- Cons: only 10/100MB Ethernet integrated - not GB. Only has 2 SATA so if you want to use RAID you must use IDE based optical drive. Not AM2+ so if you install a Phenom quad core the CPU system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200MHz) to HT1.0(2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM2+ CPU will not be impacted (per Gigabyte website). Couldn't figure out why Audio didn't work initially - turned out I needed to plug the speakers in after the machine is turned on so they can be automatically detected and configured. I guess onboard audio is smarter today then in the past. Not a Con so much - just something new to me.
- Other Thoughts: Built basic office PC with this borad, AMD Brisbane X2 5600+, integrated graphics, 250GB 3GB Western Digital 7200rpm drive, Optiarc SATA DVD-RW drive all in a HEC micro case with 565W power. I am very happy with this build. Most the the Cons are not Cons but rather something you expect in a basic budget board so I don't hold them against this item at all. I support a few small businesses in the area so I like to keep an extra inexpensive basic office PC at my home. I like to put a midrange graphics board in the PC so I can have a buddy over to play online games but then remove the graphics card should I need to replace a client's failed PC. This board and the basic build around it fit this goal perfectly. I would certainly purchase this board again.
Fits the budget bill
- Pros: I have done two builds with this mobo and it is hard to beat the value. I had no problems whatsoever with both builds and both are running great. This is a great board for users on a budget, and will fit the needs of a low end computer. The integrated video alone saves at least $30 from having to buy a separate component video card.
- Cons: None for an economy board. This board is not intended for gaming, multimedia or heavy duty processing.
- Other Thoughts: Used to use Biostar and MSI budget boards but tried this Gigabyte out after failures with the other brands.
